Hello good folks,
Not sure if this is the proper place to post but here I go...
I am relatively new to the HT life. What I have so far, am loving it, but currently feel it's lacking and not living up to the potential of what could be. The HT is spent roughly 90 percent TV related (TV, gaming and Blu-ray watching) and 10 percent music (mostly for ambiance, ex: cooking, cleaning).
The room I reside in is a garage that was converted into a family/guest room. The room is the shape of an L. It's about 20 feet by 18 feet with a ceiling that slants in, with it's apex at 11 feet 6 inches tall.
The main listening position is 9 feet away from the television. The position is sort of land locked and cannot be moved any back more because of a bed that is directly behind, so this for now is the only set up I have.
The current speaker set is a hodgepodge of different brands for now. Knowing that having different brands are not necessarily a bad thing, just currently working on getting a complete set of same tremble and ohm rated speakers, preferably all Energy Reference Connoisseur series (really do enjoy the way they sound) but open to suggestion.
That said this is my current setup:
TV: Panasonic 55ST50; AVR: Marantz 5009; FL/FR: Energy RC-70, Sensitivity 92 db, 250 watts max 8 ohms; C: Energy RC-LCR, Sensitivity 91 db, 200 watts max, 8 ohms; SL/SR: Pioneer Andrew Jones FS52, Sensitivity 87db, 130 watts max, 6 ohms
SUB: Reaction Audio Echo 15. I'm currently waiting on this to be either created or shipped (ordered back on 12/15). Since I've been waiting this long, not sure whether to cancel or wait it out because of the good reviews from those that have RA Echo and Gamma subs.
Other: Infinity QPS-1, currently on there way, and not sure of the specs as I just bought these from a forum member here. I'll more than likely be using these as surrounds in the mean time but will uses them eventually for ATMOS; PlayStation 4 for Blu-ray and gaming.
Now that finally the description is done with the living space and entertainment set up, my questions are:
What kind of amplifier and/or receiver would you suggest? Budget combined <$2000
I will upgrade to a new receiver by the end of the year and would like to hear suggestions of people who currently are on a pre/pro setup. Don't know whether to go that route or spend the money on a higher grade receiver. If I go separates, I'm not sure what kind of pre/pro to go, this is where your input will greatly help. With the amplifier, so far the Emotiva XPA-3/5 has the most intrigue followed by the Outlaw 5000. I enjoy listening to my entertainment nice and loud, usually around 80 db but do worry buying the Emotiva at 200 wpc will be too much for my situation potentially damaging the drivers (this is where the 5000 at 125 wpc edges out the XPA), and with a sub on the way, I may have to drop down the db simply as to not upset anyone. I've heard a system with a smaller amp on some Klipsch towers and they sounded fuller. Feel that just using the Marantz on the system isn't cutting it. When playing music the 70s come alive when driven by the Marantz and the difference is greatly noticeable compared to HT use.
Would moving Pioneer speakers from SL and SR to FWL and FWR be okay for right now? Would they blend or be a discernible difference when transferring from the FS52 to the RC-70?
Haven't met anyone yet that is running wide, heights or surround back speakers and plan to experiment when the Infinity speakers arrive. Would like to hear from those who are running setup greater than the 5.0 and what they experience compared to a 5.0. The experience will be different, not ignorant to that, but anything would help.
Any suggestions on a subwoofer? Budget <$1000
Like stated above, purchased a sub from RA back in December and have yet received it. Getting to the point of buyers remorse simple because of the idea of having to pay for something I do not physically own and it's starting to eat at me. If the order is cancelled, what would you recommend? Prior to the RA, HSU VTF-3, VTF-15H
and SVS PB-2000 were they subs being looked into. Never owned a sub before so really don't know where to begin with this but do recognize that a sub will be a night and day for the HT experience.
I know I am leaving a bunch of other questions and probably haven't covered all the necessary information to help you fellow forum members but am currently drawing a blank right now. If anyone has questions please don't hesitate as you'll be sharing your knowledge to someone who'll be glad to soak it up like a sponge.
Thanks for any help in advance,
AEH

Noticed that my math was wrong on the square ft of the room after mshump mentioned the head room, it was stated at over 4,000 when it's actually closer to 400, add one too many zeros.
