Hello good folks,
Going to be receiving my sub soon and a going to try to locate it properly instead of just sticking it in the corner and leaving it there.
Been researching sound meters and I know I have to use one with a 'C' rating.
With that, which ones are good? Any personal recommendations?
Trying to be as budget friendly as possible with this since it'll only be used every so often.
Thanks,
AEH

Personally I prefer the analog ones. Look for some on ebay. Should be around $30 new. Found this one now on ebay for $10.

I think Radio Shack quit making the analog meters. I had one of the digital ones for a while. It works pretty good but I'd prefer analog as well.

I have an old analog one but also a digital one and I prefer analog. Sometimes ebay will have one for sale (as linked in my post above). I think there's a market for reliable analog meters!

Or get an app for your smartphone. Read an article in the last week about phone apps and while some where more accurate than others, there were 3 or 4 major brands tested that were off by several dB. Scott

Scott True, although some apps will list the specific phones they have been calibrated with and/or the limitations associated with a specific phone. Some can even be calibrated, if you have an accurate reference. In any case, I think it is fair to say that to the extent of integrating a sub a relative measurement will do. Therefore, as long as the measurement is repeatable, i.e: there are no appreciable variations between subsequent measurements, the absolute error of the app is not a factor. It is another story if you want to measure the actual SPL in your listening position or the sensitivity of a speaker. In that case, a calibrated meter or app is certainly necessary.

+++1 for the Radio Shack analog meter. I have been using one for a few years and so far so good. It is pretty good to set subwoofer level using a test cd.

Scott Does that really matter as long as the error is consistent through different measurements? BTW, how accurate is the Radio Shack meter?

I bought a digital sound meter from radio shack for $20 not too long ago. It works great since my XMC-1 and Dirac isn't 100% accurate getting the levels just right.

Not pricey, and hey they work too.

Hello again all you awesome folks,
Would like to thank each and everyone of you personally for posting, I appreciate ever bit of it.
Been looking at Radio Shack's website and nothing comes up so may end up going to a B&M during my lunch and if I don't find one in store, I'll put in a bid for the ebay deal that HEMSTER put because it looks simple to use.
Those who use their phones for as meters, thanks for the suggest but I have one janky LG3 since it updated to 5.01 and don't trust it anymore.
If any of y'all are planning on selling one, like JOEYD stated, you'll save me the trouble and am more than willing to help you with some extra spare $$$ if the right price is right.
Alex

Alex That one on ebay is very reasonably priced and a good investment, so grab that before it goes! P.S. I am not affiliated with that seller on ebay but do think it's a good bargain.
