Hi srpawski, Many of us have used several CD/DVD/Blu-Ray players throughout the years, and most of us have settled on OPPO. It's just a preference based on performance that we have experienced in our personal systems. OPPO says that the their next generation of players with 4K and HDR (High Dynamic Range) will be available by this fall.

The Oppo is very expensive. However its video quality is very good. I saw it hooked up to a large projector and I was stunned at its picture. I honestly didnt' think you could get that level of quality out of a home system.
The upper end Oppo has a pretty nice DAC unit in it. But if you are not a video buff then I would reccomend a different cheaper unit. It all depends on your needs really. If I had the money with other needs, then yeah I would buy an Oppo. If money was tight I would go a different direction.

Friends with Oppo players said a motivating factor was it's universal capabilities.

Ok, so let me ask this: From what I understand the $1200 Oppo has the better DAC. Does the $600 one have the same video quality as does the $1200 version if the $600 version is the Darbee version? I dont need the DAC and have a $500 Denon now, so I would pay for the $600 version of the Darbee without a second thought if it will give me the same video quality of the $1200 Darbee version. Yes I believe so. By the way the Darbee version alters the video signal to make it more vivid (which means you are not getting what was originally meant to be there). I would prefer the non darbee version myself.

Hmm... I agree with you. I'm not a fan of up conversion really of things. I guess I didn't realize it did that, I just thought it was a better video codec like a better grade audio DAC that can give a better signal without altering what was there to start with. no I think it alters the colors and brighteness albeit in some sophisticated ways. There was a guy called Andrew Robinson on here who is a filmmaker and he hated the crap out of it. Some other people like it.

I haven't seen the darbee version. I saw the Oppo 105. It looked amazing on a 100 or 140 inch projector screen.

Video wise; you get the same performance from the $1,200 as you do the $600. The only difference between the 95 and 105 is the DAC and additional connectivity on the back panel.
