It's been a long time I have not been around the forums, and I felt the itch to do some gear refresh, so I just got my XMC-1. I have a Gen1 XPA-2 for fronts and a Gen1 XPA-5 for all other channels (7.1 system). Unfortunately, we had to downsize and moved from our previous home with a dedicated HT/Listening room to a 1 and a half story. The gear rack is in a closet upstairs, and video/signal goes downstairs via an Octavia Extender over Cat6 + PoE to HDMI.
I was thinking on getting a media console (Similar to the one shown at Emotiva's main page) and move my gear off the rack to re-purpose that area. However, due to some additional equipment (HTPC and Nakamishi Dragon) space would be limited. My only viable options are:
1) Keep everything as is 2) Trade-In my XPA-2 and XPA-5 for an XPA-7
This being said, I am concerned about the sound quality, power and most importantly sound depth & imaging that my two amps provide vs going the single amp route. I guess I know the answer, but looking for some real validation that making this switch will impact one or more of these aspects?
Thanks

I would guess the G3 XPA7 amp would sound slightly better using it's XPR technology. You'd have more headroom with the XPA2 but I doubt the other 5 speakers would really draw enough power to make the XPA7 constrict.
However I am intrigued to see you are adding or currently already have casette as a source. That's old school and I salute you.

If you are serious about trading in your XPA-2 and XPA-5, let us know. Someone here in the forum may offer you the same...or more money than the trade in value is going to give you.
By the way, I am with garbulky. I wouldn't either.

Thanks for the replies guys! I'll keep it as is until I can fund some expendable budget "If we can make it great again!"

I would keep what you have. I like the flexibility of using just the 2 channel amp for stereo and leaving the five channel amp off, then using both when viewing a movie 7.1 sound track plus the ability to add a four channel amp for atmos if and when needed

If you really wanted an upgrade - go for two XPA-1 gen 2's. Real gems. However it's not a huge one from the XPA-2 which is already quite good having a lot of similar attributes. But it does offer that last bit imo.

I would do it if you really needed to save the space, it might not have the peak power of your existing pieces, but would likely sound at least as good most of the time, maybe better. If you have the room however, it's probably not worth the effort.

Size of room? Listening habits? Speaker Sensitivity?

I am with garbulky . New campaign slogan!! Me too, other than space saving I see no reason to expect other meaningful improvements. Cheers Gary

i bought the XPA GEN3 Seven. For me it was a trial because i had some issues with my loudspeakers (88.5db) and wanted some power, but also wanted a very good sound. So i looked multiple times on the internet and couldn't make a decision. Went out to many audioshops to try different amps but it all couldn't please me. I can tell everyone here that i really like the sound very much. i can't tell you much about the XPA-2 and XPA-5, but the XPA Gen3 Seven is awesome. Not getting warm and the sound is great. Tested with couple of dacs, pre amps and different cables. With this kind of gear the cable (if you for instance use the digital coax out, it really make a difference. So be aware you use a very good cable.
