I saw that the new MC-700 has the HDCP on 3 of its HDMI inputs, but it seems like the XMC-1 only has one HDMI input that can handle 4k/60 with HDCP 2.2? Does that mean that one can only hook up one source that offers 4k/60 + HDCP? Or would a PC that can play 4k Blu Rays work on the other inputs without the HDCP?

As of right now, there is only 1 HDMI port that allows HDCP 2.2. Anything hooked up to the HDMI chain that requires HDCP 2.2 must be compliant. If a computer was hooked up via HDMI to the XMC-1 playing a HDCP 2.2 encoded file (movie) it would have to be hooked up to the port labeled for HDCP 2.2.

^ What he said. One HDCP 2.2 input and one HDCP 2.2 output. Emo says they will be producing an upgrade board that will make all inputs and outputs HDCP 2.2 compliant.

So the current board on the site for $350, as well as all the XMC's that have been shipped since September only have the 1 HDCP 2.2 input? Correct?

The new 8x2 HDMI board will be shipping in the end of the first quarter of 2017.
It will support UHD, HDR, HDCP 2.2, HDMI 2.0b, etc. on all inputs.

Hi Dan, great news, thank you! Another user posted that he got the info from Emotiva that this will be user changeable, e.g. if you live overseas. Is this true?

Yes, this is our plan. Originally we were worried about consumers doing it, but it's worked out OK with the people we tried it with.
So, if you can follow instructions carefully you should be able to do it yourself. All you need is a screwdriver and a little patience. And a grounding strap... and we provide that!

I can do it in the company in one of our ESD protected repair or testing areas, wearing my ESD shoes, shirt, lab coat and wristband connected to grounding... Great news, really. Thanks for making this possible!

While I'm not likely to go with overhead channels in the near future, this 8x2 HDMI video board will be extremely important to me since I plan on going with a HDR10/Dolby Vision capable 4K flat panel in the foreseeable future.

That little 'B' prefix will be so much appreciated for those looking for variable HDR metadata ; including the hdr10 version presumably and compatibility with the new oppo 203 which has a theoretical DV capability from its SOC - if it eventuates better safe than sorry .. Glad I don't have an exxy hdmi2.0a avr/pre pro to upgrade needless to say ; modular design is the way to go with HDMI ..

Exactly so..... Just to clarify the statement in the title of the thread..... ALL of the inputs and outputs on the XMC-1 have HDCP....... you can't play ANY Blu-Ray disc without HDCP (HDMI 1.4b has its own older version of HDCP). What we're talking about here is HDCP 2.2 - which is the specific NEW version of HDCP required to play commercial 4k UHD content (discs and commercial streaming content). Also note that EVERYTHING in the signal chain has to support it. That means that, if your computer video card is more than a few months old, there's a good chance that IT doesn't support HDCP 2.2 either. Also, the last time I looked, there was NO computer program for playing 4k UHD discs ( NONE of the normal "DVD player programs" seem to do so - at least yet). There are one or two drives that MIGHT be able to play the discs, including some versions of the latest LG "BDXL" drives, but no player software to go with them. If anyone has heard of any specific new hardware or software releases that can do so... please post about them. However, there are probably APPS that can play 4k streams on your computer (if your video card supports HDCP 2.2). For the record, up until HDMI 1.4b, the requirements for HDMI and HDCP were "tied together"; the HDMI 1.4b spec includes support for the HDCP version that goes with it. HDMI 2.0 changed this, and opened up the possibility of HDMI 2.0 devices that don't also support HDCP 2.2 . Also note that there are in fact devices that can "remove" the HDCP 2.2 restriction (strictly speaking they do NOT remove HDCP; they "convert HDCP 2.2 to HDCP 1.4"). At the moment they are in fact considered to be legal - and you can get one from Monoprice for $30 or $40 (until about six months ago they were considered to be illegal in the US and were difficult to find).

HDMI 2.0b on all HDMIs? Omggggg end of Q1 of 2017 is so far away! I currently have a PS4 Pro, XB1 S, and a PC with a Titan X (pascal). I will be sending my XMC-1 day one that upgrade is available! I am waiting to buy a 4K TV until after CES JAN 2017 to see what new models are in the pipeline.

I was getting anxious and wondering when it would be out. I was almost thinking or putting my XMC in storage in favor of a MC-700. I was worried that with the recent Oppo 203 purchase and Mrs. Clause possibly giving me an Epson 6040ub, that I would be stuck without being able to take advantage of the newer tech aside from running multiple HDMI leads. Great news! Judd
