ARC neophyte here. Maybe this will turn out to be more of a Logitech remote question, but I thought I'd start here. I have a Samsung smart TV and want to be able to output the audio to the XMC-1 over ARC and control everything with an activity on the Harmony Elite remote. HMDI output 1 on the XMC-1 is connected to input 3 on the TV (the one labeled as supporting ARC). I am able to assign the ARC input on the XMC-1 to a button on the front and select that to get the TV audio from the smart hub apps. When I try to set up an activity for the remote I'm able to select smart hub for the TV, but don't see any way to specify ARC on the XMC-1. I could select any of the other inputs, but not ARC. When I select the smart TV activity on the remote I'm trying to:
1. Change the TV to the smart hub apps 2. Mute the TV sound (without the annoying mute icon on screen) 3. Have the XMC-1 use the ARC audio
I think I've tried every combination I can find of CEC settings on the XMC-1, if those are even necessary in this case. If I don't go into the TV menu and select external speakers, sound continues to come from the TV speakers. If I select the button assigned to ARC then it comes through the XMC-1 as well. I'm sure I've got something configured wrong and would appreciate any help in getting me pointed in the right direction, hopefully without requiring coursework towards an electrical engineering degree.

There should be an input on the Harmony's XMC device called ARC or something similar. I'm not at home to check mine but I'd be happy to later. You could always teach that command from the original remote to the Harmony, too.

Save yourself the headache and just run an optical cable from your TV to the XMC-1. I find ARC to be more of a hassle than it is worth and that it is often unreliable.

I tried that ARC stuff and still have no ideal what is does and why I would want to use there secret sauce to do it. jlafrenz is spot on to get a return audio signal. One call, that's all.

If you get CEC and ARC to work, it's actually quite convenient. Especially for SmartTV stuff and if you like I, have the Cable TV straight into the TV (in my case the SEK-3500 evolution kit).

Perhaps you have a delay / timing issue. I use a Marantz pre/pro and ARC equipped Sharp TV. HDMI from TV to one of the two HDMI outputs labeled ARC on the pre/pro. My activity is "watch TV" (I use over the air antenna). Power up TV>Delay (find one that works 3-5 seconds)> select TV INPUT to TV > this turns on pre / pro and selects TV audio and triggers the EMO XPA-5.
I don't have much issue with timing on this but when I want to do a cold start for say the Oppo then I need to make sure TV boot time is programmed before issuing change TV to HDMI 3 (in my case). I could turn off CECC (that's not it but the acronym that sends power commands) but leave ARC active then the TV would not turn on the pre / pro but the wife likes the standard TV remote for her use.
I use TV optical out to my McIntosh preamp for two channel when I use the nVidia shield to stream from Spotify or my NAS.

Ok here goes. I have a harmony one and a Harmony 650 and here is what i do. You have to use the software loaded on your computer the web based setup is kinda crappy.
1. Go to the devices tab at the top of the software page. 2. Click the settings button for the XMC-1 and click the inputs button click next 3. Click next again and on that page scroll to the bottom and type ARC in the box and click add 4. Click the next button again and you will see the ARC entry and a drop down arrow next to it click the arrow and choose "input arc" click next and next again until the DONE button shows up click that then update the remote. You should now be able to add arc to your activity when you set it up.
YOu can also do this procedure from the activity setup simply click source is missing when it asks you what input the XMC-1 should be on.

It worked, until ARC broke The nice thing about ARC is you don't need to mute the TV speakers. It does it for you. Using an optical cable you'll need to add a couple of command buttons to the Harmony for TV volume down and up as the volume on the remote controls the XMC-1.

Socketman thanks MUCH. That partially did the trick. I did not know how to add the input on the Harmony, but was able to add it, have it selected in the activity, etc. I say partially because I still haven't accomplished objective #2 - Mute the TV sound (without the annoying mute icon on screen). As mickseymour points out, I thought once an ARC connection was active the TV speakers should mute themselves, but no such luck.
I'm thinking I may just use a Roku since I could feed it directly into the XMC just like cable box, Blu-ray, etc. That's beginning to sound like much less hassle.
