New oppo 4k or ps 4 I'm running an old oppo that I love, but have new 4k display and atmos set up not supported. The thought of adding another PS4 so my son and I can game at same time full screen would be cool but I'm concerned I'd be losing quality over a new 4k oppo any thoughts? Thanks

Both, if you can afford it. The PS4 cannot adequately compensate for the missing Oppo's 4k UHD/Atmos-DTS-X functionalities, if those are important to you.

For some reason, the audio out of the PS4 isn't of the same quality as the OPPO. Even the digital stream. There is no conventional explanation for this, but it is my personal experience.
If you're just going to use it for gaming, then go for it. But for audio, it is no equal to an OPPO.

PS4 Pro also does not playback UHD discs; its 4K capability is only for gaming and (possibly?) streaming. For a gaming system that plays UHD, you'd want to look at the Xbox One S.

Best machine ever for UHD/HD and is unsurpassed the Oppo. Another vote for the Oppo. With respects to Sony, and Microsoft, it is the one.

I've seen a few reviews lately that rate the Panasonic more highly than the Oppo. So you might want to explore that.

I have seen the reviews showing some favorability to the Panasonic player, however I went with the Oppo. Reason being I own two Panasonic bluray players and both of them quit getting firmware updates that made some of the players features useless. I have always heard good things about Oppos firmware and continually supporting their units for long periods of time. My Panasonic started losing features after 2 years. I had never owned an Oppo, but liked the idea of long term support for my 203

Cheers Gary I saw one of those reviews in which the reviewer stated he thought the UB900 did a somewhat better job than the Oppo 203 of scaling SDR material, however, there has been others that rated the Oppo better on many other counts especially when it comes to the issue of bit rate flexibility. One of the problems with the Panasonic unit(UB 900) was that it was putting out video at only a 12 bit rate which is apparently problematic with some monitors and it wasn't adjustable to the 10 bit rate of what many monitors are more comfortable handling. Apparently, the newer less costly Panasonic players have dealt with this issue. It also only handles HDR 10 with no Dolby Vision upgrade in the future. I must admit, like others, have preferred the longer "shelf life" of the Oppo units and generally speaking, they tend to be more feature laden(inputs/outputs) than most other mainstream brands and more adjustable with different set-ups.

I need multi region so I'll be getting the Oppo 203 at some point in time, multi region mods for Panasonics are next to non existent whereas the Oppo is available for a very reasonable $A120. I've been holding off for a couple of reasons, the first (not the main) is price, for example at launch they were close to $A1,000 whereas now they are down to $A850. The main reason for holding off is the bugs, there were a lot at launch, some quite big issues. The firmware updates have addressed many of them but there are still few left that I would have trouble with. The Panasonic on the other hand seems to be pretty much bug free and is now down under $A500. Shelf life really isn't an issue as I could buy a new Panasonic today and upgrade it when necessary for around the same cost as one Oppo 203.
I've had a few Panasonic DVD and blu ray players and none of them have given one single problem, so personally I have no doubt as to their reliability. Currently I do have access to an Oppo 103 to resolve the multi region issue, but that won't be the case with UHD 4K so I'll just wait a little longer for the Oppo 203.
Cheers Gary

I hope this is not a Trick question - I own both, go with the OPPO 205 - you can thank me later! The 205 is in its own league. The Audio is Amazing! ps4 pro cant touch it. I dont own the 203, so cant comment.

My opinion hasn't changed for the Oppo, but Sony has recently introduced a 4K Bluray player. Is it as good as the Oppo? That I don't know. I saw a preproduction sample from a Sony Rep a while back.

I'm thinking about the Sony also. Waiting for proof they will upload Dolby Vision onto it. Then just maybe...
