My first XMC-1 Glitch ..... I have owned mine since it was first released.
Three nights ago my wife and I ENJOYED an engrossing evening watching "Deepwater Horizon" on a UHD 4K Blu-Ray. The next evening we sat down to watch "Sicario" on a UHD 4K Blu-Ray. The audio presentation was marred by a pervasive high frequency "tizziness", a distortion of sorts. We noticed it almost immediately in the center channel. I immediately assumed I might have blown my center channel the night before ..... we were listening To "Deepwater Horizon" at a very loud level ..... the room was shaking and alive!!!!. We then, almost immediately, noticed the distortion in the Main L/R's and Surrounds .... I was somewhat relieved because I could imagine blowing my center channel, but cannot believe we could have blown all the speakers in the system!
I switched to the cable input and that too was "tizzy". I shut down the system and did a very quick speaker cable / fuse cleaning. No change. I shut the system down again and thoroughly cleaned all the electronic cables and speaker cables ..... no improvement.
I now suspected the XMC to be at fault since it is the "hub" of my room and the distortion was not input based. My next attempt at a fix was to shut the system down and turn off the XMC with the rocker power switch in the back of the unit. I also unplugged the AC power cord just for the heck of it. I waited a minute and powered up the XMC and watched the boot screen progress and finish. I then powered up the XMC from the front panel, then turned on the entire system and Voila!!!! .... all was well!!!!!
Everything has been perfect since. I hope I didn't just jinx it!!!!
I am writing this as a reference and a reminder to any XMC owners, or owners of any processor based components, that you should always consider rebooting when you have issues and/or unexpected operating anomalies.
Enjoy!!
