I remember a while back reading about several XMC-1 owners having this problem and now it looks like it's my turn. I talked to technical support and tried all the suggestions and it was decided I need to send it in for repair. They were aware of this problem and said the ECC board likely needs to be replaced. So I boxed it up and sent it via UPS to the tune of right at $90.00. That included insurance because I can't afford to risk the chance that they might destroy it. My question is, what happens if the next ECC board fails or it turns out not to have been the cause at all. I was shocked at the cost to ship from an adjoining state and can't afford to do it repeatedly trying to run down a bug. Hopefully with this being a known issue the fix will be routine. If any of y'all had this problem please let me know how it worked out.

It's my understanding, no matter the problem, they run a full diagnostics on all the systems in the XMC-1 to make sure everything is working up to factory specs before being sent back. So there should be no worries!

Thanks for the info and it makes sense too. They shouldn't want to keep spending time making free repairs any more than I want to keep paying crazy shipping costs. I probably won't even be able to drive past that UPS store again without getting a stomach ache.

Next time, go to an actual UPS terminal station, as the UPS Stores are franchises that are owned by independent owners that are free to charge more for UPS services. The corporate owned terminals only charge what you see on the UPS website.

I don't know but that's a good question. Did you send yours in? I'm hoping the fix will be permanent.

Quick clarification, mine has been in and is back I gotcha. It might be a good idea to remember each other so if either of us begin to have the issue again we can give the other a heads up. There's always the chance (like you mentioned) that they are replacing the board with one identical to the ones that failed. I know parts fail randomly but these are not isolated occurrences.

For what it's worth, I'm running one of the OLDEST XMC-1's on the planet from 2014 with no issues.

I know worrying doesn't help and I wasn't worried at all until I found out how much the shipping cost was. And my XMC-1 works perfectly except for the fact that it won't start up. I believe the fix will be simple and inexpensive (no cost to me) but the shipping is prohibitive in comparison. But I honestly will try to take your advice. By the way, I bought one of the first batch in 2014 as well and it's been perfect up till now. It's a great piece of gear.

I think it'd be great is Emotiva would sell us a shipping label when a return is necessary. We'd get the lower rates that Emotiva pays to UPS.

I'd recommend setting up a user account with UPS or FedEx. It cost $30 to send my SA-250 from Texas to Franklin via FedEx. The amp weighs almost twice as much and is larger too. I agree, you should avoid that UPS store. Plus if you have to ship anything else in the future, regardless of who you're sending to, you'll have a less expensive means.

BTW, you can still use the UPS store as a drop-off point so you don't have to go to a main terminal. Or, if you use FedEx, Kinko's usually has FedEx drop offs too.
