Hey all, Just a quick query
Purchased a 65" Panasonic Oled UltraHD and all that jazz and also a Panasonic UB400 UltraHD Blu-Ray player yesterday. Delivery today. I have the XMC-1 processor and do I understand correctly that this processor will not pass 4K in its existing state from the new BD player to the new TV? So, i have to plug in from the UHD BD player directly to the tv, and use the second HDMI port to the XMC-1 for audio correct? And I must use my projector (Panasonic AE400)with my old Oppo and Chromecast as I guess that would not accept the input from the UHD BD player via the XMC-1 or direct due to same reason of XMC-1 not passing 4K in it's current not upgraded state correct?
Cheers Z

Thanks novisnick, was just making sure I had everything correct. The 4K world is new to me ehe. Just been browsing the product site and it seems the new upgrade board V3 is also a self install option. Though haven't found the link where to purchase it yet. Was worried i had to send my unit back to Emotiva for a factory installed upgrade and that would cost a fair packet being in Australia and was hesitant about that. But if it is a self install option, it just became a lot more feasible Cheers Z

Yes you are right. If you are okay with waiting you can wait for their upgrade to the upgrade board that gives you HDMI 2.0b . There are also HDCP 2.2 converters I think it's called HDfury that will pass the 4k signal without the need for the HDMI 2.0 upgrade. They've stopped selling them but they may still be able to be found. usually about $40-60.

Hi Zarthaz ;I think what your saying is ; you've differentiated between your UHD pana ub400 [ taken advantage of the current special deal I see] and your oppo sd player and chromecast . You can still plug the oppo and chromecast into the XMC1 and feed just one hdmi out to the pana for these devices , no need to use the 93;s second hdmi out The xmc1 could even take the 4k upscaled signal from a oppo 103 its just lacking the hdcp2.2 copy protection Garbulky mentioned

OK.... FYI..... Up until about a year ago, it was generally considered to be illegal to "remove HDCP" - and HDFury was one of the companies selling a box that did just that (in the $250-$500 range). However, as of about a year ago, it was "decided" (in a court settlement) that it is NOT illegal to "convert" the new HDCP 2.2 to the older version - which HDMI 1.4b already supports. (Once you do that, the signal is still legally HDCP protected, but will work with any HDMI 1.4b device that happens to PHYSICALLY support 4k - like the original video card on the XMC-1 always has.) The bottom line is that you can now buy a little black box that will "convert" the HDCP 2.2 necessary for 4k UHD to the HDCP version that comes with HDMI 1.4b. This will allow any single video port on a non-upgraded XMC-1, or any of the non-4k ports on an XMC-1 with a v2 HDMI card, to pass 4k video. You can NOW buy this little black box, which does what the $350 HDFury box did, for $39.95 from Monoprice. (You would be looking at the "Blackbird HDCP Converter".) NOTE that there are limitations on the little black box: Each black box only fixes a single input. It is only HDMI 2.0 (and NOT HDMI 2.0b). I believe it only does 9 gBps (which may limit some video modes like 4k/60). That would be it Nick ' hdcp 2.2 > 1.4 conversion Wouldn't work for Billy Lynns long 1/2 time walk at 60p but any 24p uhd disc is OK; hdmi 1.4b I should make the point that hdmi2.0 bought in the ability to handle the 10bit format of UHD discs rather than bd's 8bit so the bit depth is problematical as well as UHD's bt2020 container ... I wouldn't have a clue about how this would effect the metadata streaming from the player but it would be negative I suspect.. at least for uhd's dci-p3 colour space.

To follow on to what cwt said, please remember thatfor the higher bit-rate or color sampling you also need to be certain that everything in the HDMI signal path is capable of 600Mhz/18Gbps. Nost, but not yet all, products in the market that are HDMI 2.0a or higher do this. ALWAYS check the spec sheet!
