The XMC-1 originally did not support 4k UHD. Then, for a while, we offered an interim solution that offered 4k UHD on one input (the HDMI v2 board). That interim solution has been discontinued, and is no longer available. We are now awaiting production on the new and better solution (the HDMI v3 board - expected before year end - which supports 4k UHD and HDR on all of the XMC-1's inputs). I spoke with the sales line and they will not have any until end of month, possibly next month. Ah, I read further and saw the note that the new HDMI board wasn't available, but thought they had an interem solution.

I have a pair of 3D bluray players in my system, and both are ultra high def. upconverting 4k. (Not ultra H.D)
Of course, the XMC can video switch 4K ultra up conversion. That picture quality will carry me quite happily, until I need a new display.

I had a Marantz SR7008 and never like it for music. I just can't stand on Audyssey processing for music. After many months of research and also waiting for the last year announced XMC-2, I decided to jump on the XMC-1 wagon three months ago and my only regret is to not have made my decision earlier. Dirac Live is in another level compared with Audyssey. Even without Dirac engaged the XMC-1 is by miles superior in terms of SQ compared with the Marantz. I can't do more than 7.2 in my place so the XMC-1 will serve me well for years to come. Just waiting for the New v3 HDMI board to be released (it's included in the price I paid) to upgrade my projector to 4K. BTW, I did try the Anthem AVM60 and to me, the XMC-1 is superior in every aspect.

I went ahead and ordered the XMC. I'll be waiting for weeks and got a new Sony 75" 4K TV and have Direct TV and the 4K channels look amazing. I'll have to run hdmi to TV and an out to XMC with the wires exposed until the new v3 board arrives. Kind of stinks since I busted my rear to run wires in walls and attic and constructed a wall for the TV and audio cabinet. I also have speakers in cieling now and will have to wait for Atmos upgrade to be released. I guess patience is a virtue.

I got one at Emofest and was told the same thing about not shipping until the end of the month. But I just received a UPS ship notification, so I guess they're ahead of schedule! Maybe you'll get notified soon too

Keith, a quick coupla questions please. The previous interim upgrade was to only be carried out by sending the XMC-1 back to Emotiva. Is that still the case, or can I get the new upgrade board when available and put it in myself here in Thailand? What will the cost of the new upgrade board be for those who got a discount on their purchase of the XMC-1? Thanks, God bless, Wayne

OK, I have searched, read read read, and here is what I have found, I THINK: There will be (or maybe are now but I am not aware that it has come out) two boards, a V3 HDMI board, that I am interested in, and need. Then a D ATMOS upgrade board which I have no interest in whatsoever. And that V3 upgrade board CAN be installed by the XMC-1 owner after all, and it will cost $500, plus shipping overseas I assume. Am I right here Keith or anyone? And IF so, when will I be able to order it? Is it available now? I read that this board is used in both the upgrade for the XMC-1 and also for the RMC-1. IF that is so, does this upgrade involve any improvement in sound? Any improvement in the ability to play Hi Res audio? Thanks for any help, information here. God Bless, Wayne

1) Correct; there will be two upgrade boards: the HDMI v3 board and the processor Upgrade (the Atmos/DTS-X upgrade). 2) Owners will be able to upgrade just the HDMI board, or both the HDMI board and the processor board. You WILL be able to upgrade just the HDMI board; and you WILL be able to install it yourself. In order to upgrade the processor board, your unit MUST also have or upgrade to the HDMI 3 board, and the PROCESSOR BOARD must be installed by us. 3) The HDMI v3 board is planned to be priced at $399 (plus shipping). You WILL be able to install it yourself (no soldering required). Both upgrade boards will be available in Q4 2017 (fourth quarter 2017.... probably November or December). 4) The HDMI v3 board is basically the same as the HDMI board in the RMC-1 (I'm not sure whether the board itself is identical or not). The HDMI board provides video signal switching, and routes the digital audio to the appropriate location. We do not specifically expect the HDMI board to affect the AUDIO quality (it simply passes the digital audio on to the appropriate processor; it does not process the audio). We also do not specifically expect the HDMI board to affect the ability of the XMC-1 to play high-res audio files. Thank you Keith for this good answer, this is the reason I trusted you guys at Emotiva when you said this pre-processor was future proof and upgradable!!!! I am ONLY interested in making the XMC-1 able to pass through a 4K picture (with all the HDR, etc) and allow for OSD as I now can do in HD. $399 seems a VERY reasonable price (plus shipping of course, and my time to change out the boards) to pay for this upgrade. That is worth waiting until the end of the year for. I have not upgraded my TV nor my BDP yet, so I am in no real hurry, as some here are. I am happy to let them go first. As great as the pic quality on my plasma TV is, I am not really sure it is even worth any time, trouble or money to do so. BUT my Oppo 95 is getting long in the tooth and starting to give some troubles occasionally, and the new UDP 205 is reputed to sound better. So that may force the issue. Glad Emotiva is here for us a few years down the road after purchasing the XMC-1. Most companies would not be!!! Thanks, God Bless, Wayne

LOL - And the Gar fires a torpedo down Big Dan's channel! Like Marantz offers upgrades? Just sayin'... Other than "Auro 3d" I don't see much from Marantz. Not to say that there's anything wrong with the brand... Few if any HT receivers have available upgrades. They are nearly obsolete the day they are purchased. My stereo stuff will be 'fixable' long after an HT receiver purchased at the same time is doing duty as a door-stop. The factory 'upgrade' cycle is very short. There isn't much incentive to get it 'perfect', since in 6 months the NEW stuff will be out and todays gear, largely forgotten. Except by the poor owner who has some kind of problem. Sell the Sizzle, not the Steak

I just got the Xmc1 and the Xpa yesterday. So ahead of schedule of when they said it would arrive. I was expecting end of month but cam early. I'll have to set up this weekend. One thing I'm learning, the XMC is more geared to music rather than home theater even when atmos board comes out. Am I incorrect in assuming this? Seems less user friendly to change sources.

I use mine for HT most of the time. Changing sources is no big deal IMO.
