My XMC-1 had been performed flawlessly since I bought the unit about 3 years ago as well as couple of firmware updates. But lately my unit is not booting all the way up and just hangs in yellow color with bar toward the end. All the usual lights are there in yellow color but just never boots all the way. At first, it happened just couple of times in a week and usually boots right up if I just turn it off and on from the back switch. However, it is getting more frequent which requires several re-boots to be ok to listen/watch. I thought perhaps the firmware was corrupted and I reinstalled it (the file was sent by fellow member 'hemster'). But it is behaving the same. If anyone knows the culprit please do let me know, otherwise, I might need to send the unit back to Emotiva for repair along with updated video HDMI board.

There are a few threads around here that refer to the EEC Board being the culprit . I would call EMO on monday and get the skinny from them but i suspect a trip to the home base is in your future. Let us know how it goes.

I would arrange for factory warranty service and the 4K upgrade with the same trip.
Even though I’m having no problems and can do the new board myself, I’ll most likely send the unit in when an UHD monitor is in my future. After that much time, a comprehensive factory inspection would be a good move.

Had this problem sometime ago, and I had to rma the unit back to Franklin for an ECC replacement. Here's the thread on which the issue was discussed: emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/48944/xmc-1-freezing-on-startThere is even an account of detailed troubleshooting steps another lounger was guided through, when he was having the same problem, but he too eventually had to have his unit RMA'd, I think. At the end of the experience, this was the service report that was emailed to me: *************************** WS # 1***** Great news! Your service has been completed. Your unit was inspected, and repacked for its journey back to you. Our service technician found the following issue: ECC replaced. ************************** I hope you receive the assistance you need quickly, if it does come to that. Sorry for your trouble.

After reading all the threads regarding this problem, I decided to send the unit back to Franklin along with 4k video board upgrade. While I was unhooking everything to pack the unit, I was unable to unhook one of the balance input cable. No matter what I do, it is just stuck there. And that push pin in balance input to unhook the cable, it came off. I really didn't push that hard. At the end, I had to cut the cable at the hub to be able to pack the unit back into original box. It is the first problem that I encountered with my XMC-1 for three years of ownership. I thought about buying another pre/pro but this thing really sounds good in both home theater surround and stereo. As long as XMC-1 works the way it suppose to work, I will not need another upgrade for a very long time. And thanks everyone for your response.

Sometimes it is just better to heed the warning signs and wave the white flag.

I ordered the new HDMI board to be installed by the technician at Franklin and just waiting for them to send me the mailing label. The instruction at the website said, it will take up to 10 days for label. Hope it is not that long for them to email the mailing label.

Finally I got some response from the Emotiva regarding this video board upgrade situation today. I ordered and paid for video board upgrade back July 9, 2018 and all this time I thought I was waiting for them to email me the mailing label. According to today email that I got, I am suppose to wait for another 10 days from today to receive the return mailing label. They said it might arrive by the end of the week. If you guys sending the unit back to Emotiva for this upgrade procedure, plan to include this potential delay. My XMC-1 was out of commission since July 9. It looks like I might have to wait another two weeks or more before my home theater is functional again. There is nothing I can do except to wait.

When I said "There is nothing I can do except to wait." It was meant to be regarding my home theater viewing experience. Trust me, I am not just waiting for my XMC-1 to be repaired. I have plenty things to be done beside my hobbies like going to work everyday, preparing my Bible study group lessons, riding my bicycle for exercise, mowing my grass (even though it is very hot over here in hill country southern Texas), tend my small gardens, reading some novels for pleasure ......... My above post was meant to inform other members how long it might take for their XMC-1 to be upgraded and don't expect to be done quickly unless it is self-installed order. However, I do miss having my home theater at will. I didn't think I will miss it much but I do.

I was just ribbin ya. Waiting can be consuming , especially around here. I suspect the crew is hard at work trying to suss out the bugs and dont want anymore going out the door till they get a handle on things. This is just my opinion and pure speculating

It's worth it, mine arrived from Franklin after the upgrade working perfectly. I have no real issues, but my system is pretty "simple", Samsung 4K panel (no DV), Sony 4K BD, Apple TV4K and a cable box. Cheers Gary

Heck I don't even have ultra HD player yet nor any other 4k sources. So I really don't need this video upgrade yet but since my XMC-1 was acting out, I might as well get this upgrade along with warranty repair. My current front projector is close to ten years old but still working great as 1080p projector. True 4k front projector is my next upgrade in the future, but not sure about ATMOS upgrade yet. I need to install 4 ceiling/height channel speakers if I wanted to upgrade to object based processor along with 4 more channels of amplification. When the ATMOS is available to XMC-1, I need to compare cost vs other potential upgrade like better speakers etc.

Wow, my XMC-1 arrived today to Emotiva repair center around 12 pm and I have already received the email from technician that my XMC-1 is ready to be ship back to me. This repair includes V3 video board swap, flashed ECC (not replaced but reflashed it seems), replaced one balanced input xlr connector, latest firmware v5.2 update and check the all functionality of inputs and outputs. That is one fast service! My home theater should be back in service within a week.

YES!! According to UPS tracking info, XMC-1 will arrive by this Friday. Too bad that I don't have 4k front projector and/or ultra hd player to check the v3 hdmi board this weekend. But my home theater will be back in action.

It's Wednesday now, meaning you have three days to get a 4K projector and UHD BD player before setting up the XMC-1 on Saturday. Not seeing the problem...

LOL! Yeah I have been looking for suitable 4k front projector and ultra HD player for last several weeks while I was waiting for XMC1 to be repaired. I haven't quiet made the decision yet. There is so much to sift through. I wanted to try DLP projector this time but I hate any kind of rainbow effect which was why I went with 3lcd projector last time. I am hoping there is some improvement last 10 years.
