Hiya.
I'm having a hard time using my McIntosh C2300 to trigger (power on) my Emotiva XPA-2 amp.
Does anyone know if the brands are compatible, or does anyone know if there is a common mistake that I'm missing? Or, does anyone have experience using a different brand of preamp to power on their Emotiva amp(s)?
Thanks in advance for your help.

It looks like that McIntosh has several different 3.5mm power control outputs. Which one are you using? Sometimes those are assignable in the setup and it may be a case where you are using an output that only triggers when you switch to a certain inpput etc.

There is a de facto standard for trigger connections (12 VDC). Almost all A/V equipment on the market is compatible with it - including all Emotiva gear (and all Marantz and other major brand gear that I know of). However, there are a few oddball products that use different systems. [UPDATED] The McIntosh C2300 in specific uses a proprietary three-wire trigger system. It uses 5V as the main trigger (instead of the standard 12V). I also uses a third wire for another signal which controls the brightness of various illumination (the meter lamps on McIntosh amplifiers and the platter lighting on McIntosh turntables)
You'll find details in the manual....
