I just bought The A-100 amp to drive my HD6xx's a week or two ago. I wonder how it would compare! There may be another upgrade coming my way.

Flash Update! on the Class A amp! I just gotoff the phone with Emotiva and they divulged NOTHING! Nodda! Zip!
Couldn’t even get a name. Perhaps they should have told us nothing if its that far away. I did tell them that they’ve gotten the attention of a few of us on the forum.

Class 'A'? Make it single ended and you're golden.
One or maybe 2 gain stages and NO global feedback.
Mosfet? Bipolar? IGBT?
I'd start with a bridged version of the Pass 'amp camp' amplifier. Should drive ANY headphones, even 'stats or Planars.

The word from Big Dan sometime ago: I imagine it will still be half width and fully balanced. I'm hoping for a 1/4" headphone output. No 1/4” out... You want to get the companion HP-1 Class A balanced headphone amplifier! 4 watts per channel, discrete Class A design. +/- 27 VDC rails!!!! Talk about headroom. Great for both low and high impedance headphones. Selectable gain, etc. $399.00 Made in USA 🇺🇸 I wonder if B'zilla would be able to do a frankenmod to this amp so I can buy two and make them class A balanced MONOBLOCKS?! I sure hope they use a linear power supply - but I have a feeling they won't. |

IGBT is a sub-class of Bipolar Transistor. Isolated Gate Bipolar Tranistor. Or Insulatated Gate. When I built the stuff, our line was OVER 600volts for those devices. And in the process of manufacture, took several additional steps thus adding to final cost. They are 'fast' switching, however, making them good for amplifiers. Other characteristics? maybe NOT so good. But for a low power headphone amp? Maybe. I'm just suggesting a 'purist' amp. My CMOY headphone amp is fine for me, but certanly NOT a sellable product. tangentsoft.net/audio/cmoy/ |
