My son took his Playstation to college this week, and we'd been using that to play blurays on 1 of our TV's. Now, we need a new BluRay player to replace it. This is NOT in a HT and NOT hooked to a 4K TV...so, don't really care about the latest CODECS, sound quality, etc...just ordinary TV with a BluRay player. Must haves are: must play BluRays, must have streaming for at least Netflix and Hulu, must work well. Can be wifi ready or require ethernet line.
I saw a lot of cheaper Sony's (<$100) but a lot of reviews said very laggy on streaming and/or entering info into search bars. Not interested in that.
Price range needs to be less than about $150.
Ideas?

If yo uwant Netflix or Hulu I reccomend getting a FireTV or fire tv stick. it's much faster and less laggy. I used the Sony you mentioned and you are right about huge lags. You can get the firetv for $40. The time saved waiting for stuff is well worth all of the money! As for the blu ray player, I thought the Sony's did fine. Ocassional crash.

IMO all of the cheapo players are slow and laggy, when I sold my Oppo 103 as even it was getting slow with Netflix and such I got an el cheapo player for like $50 and a NVIDIA Shield TV, I didn't even want a cheap blu-ray player with smart functions.
I say cheap player and something in the Roku line up or the fire tv Garbulky mentioned.
I have the LG BP250 which seems fine enough for just playback of discs.

If you get Vudu you can redeem your digital copies of blurays with them and you won't need a disc player, only a FireTv stick.

Sounds like a basic BluRay + a fire stick would be a good combo.

Got the Fire Stick on order. Decided not to wait on the 4K one. We have 5 TV's and none are 4K, so even once I switch to 4K for my main area - it will be a while before I have all 5 replaced with 4K. So, the non-4K stick will have some life in it for our needs. Will worry about a BluRay player next.
