I have a bunch of RCA cables that are marked for video and was wondering if I could use them for audio connections, are the wires inside really that different. I also have some that do not state either but have an arrow pointing in one direction what would that be used for. Very confusing

Using the video for audio should be fine. The arrows show the signal path , like cd player to receiver the arrows would point to the receiver. I have put them in backwards and never heard a difference.

Very confusing Video cables are generally good for everything, analog video, analog audio, and digital audio. You don’t say what brand they are, cheaply made cables of any type fail more frequently and may have less than ideal conductors and shielding. Otherwise, pop them in where you need them, they should work great.

Just use them. RCA cables are RCA cables. And don't worry about how any of them are marked or what color they are, that is meaningless. Arrows generally point to the end that is grounded, and normally that should be connected to an input not an output, but it has nothing to do with "signal direction." Audio (and video) signals do not have a "direction."

^^^ Both ends of RCAs should be connected to ground, it's a single-ended connection... Unless you are referring to an extra shield grounded at only one end?
Many, perhaps most, RCA cables use the same 75-ohm coax commonly used for video cables. It works fine and manufacturers save money by only stocking one type of bulk cable.

No harm has ever come to audio gear using RCA cables intended for video. Though some have said the reds and blues pop more on your music. Nah just kidding on that last one, but no, by all means use your video RCA for your audio with confidence. You are totally golden.

I thought I should raise awareness here regarding the arrows on those wires. They are safety warnings, actually.

Ah, I see, clearly that is a problem. Flight path should be left to right.

Thanks everyone for all the replays and great info. I found an old box of Monster cables from when they first came out. I know not so good that's why they were boxed. Recently needed a couple of cables to tempererly hook something up and dug them out.

Thanks everyone for all the replays and great info. I found an old box of Monster cables from when they first came out. I know not so good that's why they were boxed. Recently needed a couple of cables to tempererly hook something up and dug them out. I have 1 meter Monster RCA interconnects running between the XMC-1 and my 5 channel amp. That are 17 and a half! years old in perfect condition and still excellent build quality. Yes Monster bought into and pushed plenty of BS over the years however did put out some fine quality product. All my termination still look new. Bill
