The thread title says it all. Can anyone offer up some advice on what might be wrong?

The thread title says it all. Can anyone offer up some advice on what might be wrong? First thing I would do is go to HDMI configuration and check all the HDMI#2 settings. If all good there, swap an HDMI cable with one that works and also try the full reboot. If none of that works the board may be faulty. Bill

Yes, check HDMI settings, as normally audio is routed through the processor. I think there’s a checkbox for “TV Sound” you want checked.

I would say that is normal operation. Unfortunately, a receiver/processor either processes the audio itself (stripping it from the HDMI output) or passes it through untouched.
If you have video on standby enabled, then the XMC1 should pass the audio on while in standby.
As AudioHTIT noted, there is an an HDMI CEC setting for "Audio to TV" that might let the TV steal the sound from the XMC1. CEC is not known for its robustness so YMMV.
