Thanks for the link. I am probably going to go ahead and buy the Roon lifetime subscription. I use it with Tidal hi fi, including Mqa, as my main music source. I got a good deal on the Elac Discovery Z3 wireless Roon ready speaker and it connected immediately and works well. I wanted to try a Roon ready device before purchasing the lifetime subscription and this works fine for the intended area. The synchronization is great while running both Roon areas. I have paid as much for a piece of stereo kit that did not work and sound nearly as nice as Roon.

I think that's a pretty fair statement.
The thing about Roon is that it offers a lot more than just streaming music. Some people really enjoy and use the extra stuff, and all that "deep content", while others simply don't. What I understand, from friends who do like that sort of stuff, is that, if you like that sort of stuff, Roon is almost certainly the best option out there. It's certainly been around for a while, and they do keep improving and supporting it, which are also both important with software.
Personally, I'm more a "read the text" than a "click on the pictures" sort of guy... I almost never read the album folders... I tend not to sit and gaze at the album cover art while it's playing...
And I'd rather pick the name of the album off an alphabetical list of names than look for the little picture... (And, if I want more information, I always have a computer running somewhere within ten feet of me where I can Google it anyway.) I also tend to be very particular about how my software works. (I wrote my own checkbook manager in Excel because none of the commercial ones did exactly what I wanted the way I wanted them to...)
So it's not for me...
However, if you like that sort of thing, I don't think the price is at all unreasonable. (I've certainly spent more than that on other software that I use a lot.)

So there are a couple of other reasons to like Roon KeithL. I also don't pay too much attention to the Meta Data. Maybe once a month? What is of value to me: - It's a "supported" product and they have an income stream to continue supporting it. I was using the Squeeze Server/Client with a SqueezeBox Touch TosLink'ed into my DMC-1. Logitech abandoned the whole Squeeze Ecosystem and the software has been ... "Community Supported" but the writing was on the wall. Roon has an interface to bridge into old Squeeze Devices (a brilliant marketing move on their part to gain an almost instantaneous customer base) which allows to to continue using my SqueezeBox Touch till something better like say, and RMC-1, comes along ... with full support for Roon of course!
- The architecture of the Roon system is really quite nicely done. Much better than any of the other Streaming Music Systems out there. The concrete abstractional separation of Bridges/Endpoints, from Core/Server, from Controller with well defined APIs/Interfaces between them leads to a much cleaner/supportable system. My guess is that someone on their team has done iOS application programming since iOS uses a similar concept.
- Roon natively supports a bunch of formats (including DSD) and has support to use DAC Hardware Volume Controls where available.
- And then there are a few interesting features which are shared with some of the other Streaming Music services like multi-room coordinated playing, etc.
