I am considering starting a new thread to track all the known issues for the RMC, firmware updates and resolutions or workarounds. Here is the format I was thinking of making for the first post which would be updated as new issues are found or firmware updates are pushed out. I would ask that ONLY issues not already reported or solutions to issues would be posted in that thread. This owners thread makes it a bit difficult to track and know all the issues for the RMC. Items in black font are unresolved, green shows a possible workaround and red are resolved. Going forward I would also try to do a better job keeping track of who reports the issue so if a workaround or solution is found they can test. Or so anyone with a question regarding the issue could be sent directly to someone experiencing the issue. Thoughts? Firmware 1.0 – Release date 11/19/2018User Reported issues with this firmware: - Using HDMI input no bass management from any sound MODE except "Surround". Reported by Geronimo
- Using HDMI input and USB DAC, delayed sound at beginning of track. Reported by multiple users
- Using HDMI input and USB DAC, drops signal if there is not a continuous sound streaming. Example: playing youtube videos back to back. Reported by Geronimo
- Using HDMI input and Oppo player – when using balanced input on reference stereo mode there is a hum at the same volume and RMC will lock up. Reported by rhale64
- HDR video “banding” - RESOLVED with firmware 1.1
- 24db sub slope does not survive cold reboot - RESOLVED with firmware 1.1
- Incorrect video status when using internal black screen - RESOLVED with firmware 1.1
- Incorrect mode displayed (Reference Stereo) was shown for dtsHD5.1 when in “Auto”. - RESOLVED with firmware 1.1
- OLED do not always refresh when exiting out of menus. - RESOLVED with firmware 1.1
- DSD playback has pops and clicks. Lonnie communicated to avoid playing DSD files on 11/28/2018.
- Using HDMI input and Oppo 203, media from disc and network files exhibit a chirp at same volume at roughly 8-10 minute intervals. Chirp does not occur if same timestamp is played back, but will occur in another 8-10 minutes. Chirp is RESOLVED with firmware 1.1, possible new audio click introduced
- During cold restart, RMC will freeze and require a full reboot. WORKAROUND - can be avoided by putting your unit in "low power" standby, or turn off the source device feeding the input, or switch the RMC to an input with nothing connected before turning the RMC off. RMC should be fine at next startup.
- HDMI sync issues when switching inputs. RMC tends to have problems locking on to audio signal. Reported by multiple users
Firmware 1.1 – Release date 12/07/2018Additional user reported issues with this firmware: - RMC cycles through audio playback modes when fed a PCM signal. RMC may choose reference stereo mode when fed surround format. Reported by multiple users
- DSP will sometimes lock up and only output a buzzing sound. Reported by multiple users
- Audio Dropouts – Dropouts can range from 5 seconds to a complete loss requiring a full reboot to get audio back. Reported by multiple users
- RMC has a quick audio click at roughly 8-10 minute intervals. Audio click does not occur if same timestamp is played back, but will occur in another 8-10 minutes.
Thanks for compiling the issues in one spot, your idea about a separate issues thread is a great one, please do that. I was one of the first group to order an RMC but my theater is still in construction mode, and I have only had time to open the box and look at it. Having an issue thread to go straight to when I’m finally able to install would be great, especially since this thread is likely going to continue getting longer and more spread out. I’ve already learned a few things from this thread though, for instance I gather I’m going to need to get some adapters for unbalanced subs. I hadn’t noticed before buying that I would need them. Also someone posted about rack ears being the wrong size? I ordered 4u ears, hope they are the right size. Can’t wait to get this thing installed, just got a few more thing to sort out before I can build out my rack Attachments:

I have a set and they work, besides the fact I don't think the screw holes to secure the RMC in place line up. I'll try to open a new thread with all the issues.

For anyone wanting to track known issues and firmware releases, please see the thread I have created at: RMC - Issues and FirmwareIn other news, I received a return phone call form Emotiva. Janna stated the 30 day return period will start when Dirac is released. So those of us who purchased on Nov 15th have some time to wait and see if a firmware update will resolve our issues.

That's good to hear, I think once the firmware gets vetted and DIRAC is activated and we have no bugs then we are in good shape!

Hello All, I just wanted to come on here and give everyone and update. Please know that we hear you guys and we are diligently working on what has been brought up. Some of the things that have been noted are quite complex and I'm being completely honest here, we never ran into them during our testing. Now having said that, it is great when people give us specifics to what they have and how the box is setup and such, it helps us to duplicate the test conditions and replicate the issue. To that end, I am happy to say that we were able to find the root cause of the strange behavior and we are working on a resolution now. I do apologize for this and promise you a fix very soon. I appreciate everyone's patience and help with this while we get it taken care of. While I am here I also wanted to answer a quick question that has come up. We want everyone to happy with their gear, so don't stress it, your 30 day audition doesn't officially begin until we release Dirac. So no one is under the gun here (except me ) and we certainly don't want anyone to be unhappy with their purchase. Thanks again everyone! Lonnie

Merry Christmas to you as well Lonnie! Just out of curiosity, and since a bunch of us here are more than a bit "curious" (at least that's what one of my girlfriends claimed), what were some of the more interesting issues which came up after production launch? Casey

I'm back again. Dan asked me to give you guys more detail about what we found and what we are doing to resolve it. To do that I think its important to give you guys a little background info. Now from the outside it may look like the RMC has a number of bugs and that we released it without fully testing it. If I'm being honest and took a step back, I would come to the same conclusion. But the truth is we have been testing this unit for a very long time. But it is impossible for us to vett out every combination of gear and setup. With the first batch out we (and you) are seeing gremlins popping up that never showed up before, simply because of the shear number of units being used in different configurations. From the outside, these gremlins (for lack of a better term) appear to unrelated but in reality are related and come back to a single thing, clock management. With your feedback we have been able to replicate the issues and through a ton of testing and debug code we were able to trace the root cause back to how we manage the clocks in the new DSPs. What we have discovered is that under the right conditions the DSPs become very unhappy and simply halt there operations which ties up the internal control lines which in tern slows down and in some cases stops the entire system from responding to the helm. Finding the root cause was the first big hurdle and coming up with the resolution is the next. In its simplest form, all we have to do is rework how we manage the various internal and external clocks to and from the DSPs. Sounds simple enough, but the truth is, its a bit of work. Nothing that we can't handle though. In closing I just want to say thank you to everyone for all their help, patience and I just want to say that I am truly sorry we missed this in testing. Lonnie

Thanks a lot for keeping us in the loop. Do you anticipate the fix to be before the next batch is released?

These quick communications really help us understand the issues, what's going on to resolve the issues and for me personally, reminds me to calm down and keep an eye on the end goal.

Each time I come to this thread I see more described of what I'm experiencing with my unit. I have the same issues as described, but with the addition of noise coming from the unit itself. Can't embed, but have a video link: RMC-1Is the sound coming form inside your RMC a high pitched whine? I can't hear anything in your video even with my speakers turned all the way up.

One last update, we are writing the new code now and luckily we designed the system to be flexible. So if the path we are on tonight is correct, an update will be released before the weekend.

I would like to thank every beta tester for acrively helping fixing the various RMC-1 bugs before its official release... While this is a slight backhanded jab at the folks here, lighthearted as it is, it does bring up the point that Emotiva should seriously consider expanding their beta program. It did not take long for this particular issue to come to surface and if done months ago in a closed beta forum, would have avoided the pain for the 1/2 dozen folks posting here with issues. Not to mention erase the FUD for those waiting to get their units later on.

I sure hope this update works. I would surely like a properly operating RMC1 for the holidays. Mine finally acted up twice yesterday. So mine is still not perfect. Getting better however.
I hope this works because I would know that Dirac is right around the corner. I really want Dirac.

Hey I wanted to ask - is there any plan to implement Auro3d? I thought originally there was, but it got canned.
Thanks!

You can bet your boots that , if they ever get this thing working smoothly, they will not tempt a backward slide by introduction of Auro 3D, essentially a European thing that is content shallow here in the U.S.

Any word on whether/when eARC and IMAX Enhanced functionality will be added to the RMC?

I am closely following the RMC-1 as I will be making a processor purchase decision in the next few months. Any word on whether/when eARC and IMAX Enhanced functionality will be added to the RMC? We are already working on an interim solution for EARC. As of right now, there is only one way to get EARC which is to put a side car chip on the HDMI TX. Not the most elegant solution, but a functional one. The elegant solution would be to have EARC built into the HDMI TX, but there are no chips that have this and they won't be available for at least another year. Luckily, there are no TVs or content providers that can do EARC, so we have some time. I've been talking to DTS about IMAX for a while now and I will be seeing them in a few weeks to dig a little deeper. I can't really give you a time frame for either at this point, just that we are either actively working on it or looking into it. Lonnie
