Hope these issues are fixed for the second pre-order group that I'm in. Sounds like this shouldn't have been released yet....

Don't let these minor issues affect your decision to buy, i'm coming from the xmc and that also had some bugs in the initial firmware. I have high confidence emo will fix any issues that arise. I can't stress enough how fantastic this processor sounds, and i only set distance and levels. My xmx-1 had a custom target curve and the rmc out of the box sounds just as good, and with atmos sounds even better. I swear emo put in a hidden universal dirac curve Lol!

How does RMC-1 sound for 2ch compared with XSP-1? Both analog and digital. How is the DAC, compared with for example ERC-3 connected both ways?

Well I can give a comparison as a two channel preamp. I have a BAT VK40 preamp. I simply love that thing. With the new RMC1 I am trying to justify keeping it. The RMC1 in Reference mode is simply stunning. Absolutely no harshness even at ear splitting levels. The RMC1 has more extended highs, much better bass, great soundstage depth and just about as good height. The BAT seems maybe a bit more layed back but maybe a little to much. It will take more listening to tell for sure.

I keep going back and forward on whether to have a 2nd stereo system with the XSP-1 Gen2, and get a RMC-2 for movie duties. So also very interested in hearing comparisons on the RMC-1's two channel performance. I may just put the funds into getting a RMC-1 to handle both. Then I wonder how far away an updated XSP-1 Gen3 is......hmmmmm........

Hey Deewan, I also have mine on video standby and had the reeboot happen and then froze. I just flipped the switch off in the back and it was fine after that. Also when i was playing a flac file from a usb stick, the song stopped playing and there was a constant beeping sound coming from my 2 mains. The rmc froze and no matter what buttons i pushed the beeping didn't stop until i flipped the switch in the back. I played the same usb for hours after that and everything is fine now. Also when playing music with the dolby upmixer(flac files) or the dtsx one, the music contantly skips(didn't happen the first day). When i switch to a non upmixer mode music plays fine. Have you tried the upmixers with music yet? Let me know if you have the same issue Adam I'll try some music and upmixing now to see if anything funky happens. I'll report back. I'm hosting a double feature movie presentation tonight so hopefully everything continues to work well. If your RMC freezes again, try holding in the front panel power button fro a few seconds and see if it reboots. That is how I got mine to get out of the frozen mode during the unprompted reboot.

Folks, I found a few more bugs. This is the second time I’ve came downstairs to find the RMC-1 “ON”. Not sure why but somehow it turned itself on. Decided to listen to a SACD. Used the Harmony elite and selected watch movie. That starts JVC projector for video, turns on RMC(already on), selects input 1. The RMC was already on and the Logitech turned on the Oppo 205. I put in the SACD and there was no sound. I did a hard reset of the RMC. During boot up the SACD video appeared on the JVC and the music was present; however, the RMC display was frozen on “Think high end” and the volume knob did not work. The right screen had no information. Then I heard a pop on the speakers. A couple minutes later the display showed volume on the left side and began changing volume on its own. That lasted a few seconds then settled down @ -45db. My projector screen went blank for a few seconds(usually means changing resolution or lost signal) but came back on with the SACD information on the screen and still playing music. During this process the left screen changed to the correct input/audio/video information and the right screen to the correct DSD 5.1.
After all the above the RMC seems to be working properly now. The screen displays on both sides are functioning correctly and the volume knob works and the SACD is playing.
Not sure if anyone else has experienced the unit on when they left it turned off. I think I’ll have to turn it off from the rocker switch on the back to make sure it stays off.

Well after further experimenting I have seen new behavior. When the first SACD was finished it stopped and the OPPO-205 showed its main menu. The RMC however, showed input/audio/video left side and DSD 5.1 right side and was locked up. I held the on/off button on the front for a few seconds and the unit did a full reboot. The new SACD was still playing during the reboot. After rebooting the left side is showing volume @ -31db and the right side is blank. The unit is locked up. Music is playing and the video is present on the theater screen. The volume overlay is showing on the screen and trying to change the volume on the unit has no effect. The behavior seems to also be time based. Now the locked volume displaying on the screen had been replaced by input/audio/video left side and PCM 0,0 on the right. The input/audio/video remains on the projected image. Now the input/audio/video overlay has disappeared. Once again seems time based. The audio still keeps playing throughout. Video is present throughout.

brbecker - sorry to hear you are having some issues. I'm beginning to see a few more issues as well. After having some luck yesterday, I'm back on the bogey train. I hosted a double feature today showing two movies. While turning on the system it froze during the "Video on Standby" startup, it would pass video but would not respond and would not allow me to change volume or input. I held down the front button and the unit did turn off. A push of the power button and the RMC did a full reboot that lasted about 80 seconds. I was able to change inputs and volume so we began the first movie. About 8 minutes into the movie a loud chirp came through all speakers. I was sitting in the middle of my second row and saw everyone jump. The chirp is not part of the movie soundtrack. The chirping sound continued to come though all the speakers about every 8-12 minutes of the movie. During quite passages it would scare everyone in my room. I made note of a few of the time stamps of when the chirp occurred during the first movie We went right into the second movie. Same situation with the chirps, but a little more random and little less often. We still experienced the loud chirp 10-12 times during the movie. After the second movie I did not shut down the system and after bidding everyone farewell I went back downstairs to see if I could figure out the chirping sound. I put the first movie back in and went to the time stamps I made note. The chirps did not occur. I let the movie play to see what would happen. About 8 minutes and then "CHIRP". This time right at the 22:14 time stamp. I went back to the beginning of that chapter which was roughly 60 seconds before the chirp and let the movie play. This time the movie played straight through the 22:14 time stamp without a chirp. For these reasons I don't believe the chirp is being caused by anything encoded on the discs or the soundtrack. One other thing I noticed during my movies today, the lip sync seems to be off. I have lip-sync turned to auto on both my Oppo 203 and the whatever the setting is for the RMC. During the second movie the lip sync was bad and very noticeable to me. I didn't ask anyone else about it because I didn't want to draw attention to it if they didn't notice. Hopefully some changes can be found and the issues can be resolved. Many of the things I am able to overlook in the short term but the annoying and random chirps is something that takes away from the enjoyment of the movie.

Many of the things I am able to overlook in the short term but the annoying and random chirps is something that takes away from the enjoyment of the movie. I remember the UMC-1 would have an occasional chirp here and there, but never experienced it on the XMC-1 or the MC-700. They'll fix it, but hang in there as it'll probably take several months for it to get really solid.

Guys this second RMC1 has been flawless. I am wondering if I have a newer firmware version. I haven't had one issue at all. My first one seemed sluggish at times in the menu. This one is a lot better. Also no chirps or noises. The OLED screens have been solid. With no out of whack info.

While in the main menu, go to “Information”. The version numbers for all of the installed firmware modules will be listed there. Hope this helps... 😊

Just a quick note to all the owner's. We have been doing regression testing and realized in the latest round of code, DSD has pops and clicks. Please refrain from playing DSD for the moment and we will release a code fix in one to two days. Thanks Lonnie Just saying.

Yes I remember Lonnies post about DSD. Thought I would check it out and see how bad it was. The pops happened only twice while playing SACD. The multiple lockups and the unit changing the volume up and down on its owe was interesting. Has anyone else found the unit on when they left it off? Just a thought on the power thing. Live in the country and there are occasional power interruptions. Could possibly be a power interruption that makes the unit turn on?

Did you make any changes to your setup parameters? Does it only happen with certain audio formats? I'm trying to understand if it's a hardware or software issue. The other owner that reported a chirp, got a new unit and stated performance is better. Whether it's hardware or software related, I would prefer that it happen in every movie/show with the same parameters, be consistent, as I think those types of issues are easier to fix. I would hate to have good performance for a few weeks or longer and then one day start hearing chirps.

I've watched about three complete movies so far and no chirps from this unit.

I would hate to have good performance for a few weeks or longer and then one day start hearing chirps. All great questions and things that went through my mind. I might be wrong, but I believe rhale64 had a ding with his unit, not a chirp. But maybe we are heard the same thing and used different words to describe it. My sound is best described a quick digital chirp. I have not changed my setup or made any adjustments to the RMC since Friday. I also have not done a full reboot since the RMC has done two on it's own. Until yesterday all the content I enjoyed were: - Streamed from my Movie Sever (bit for bit BluRay rips with lossless audio, I believe all DolbyHD format, no DTS)
- Two channel music from a CD
- Concert 7.1 DTS-HD BluRay through the Oppo
Yesterday's chirp came while using the Oppo and watching full movies with DTS 7.1 surround format. Prior to yesterday when using the Oppo and discs I watched a tracks/songs of concerts and I may not have ever watched more than one song in a row without skipping around. So I'm curious if this chirp is related to the format brand (DTS vs Dolby) or also possible the length of time the RMC is fed an audio stream (constant movie vs skipping around to tracks). Or it could be a combination of the two. Lonnie reached out to me last Friday and is providing wonderful customer service. Which is why I'm not worried about my issues and why I will never worry about being an early adapter to a Emotiva product. But I'm still curious about my issues and wanting to report in case others are experiencing something similar.
