All became academic - He wandered into BestBuy & liked some Klipsch towers. Bought. Done. All those excellent choices but in all fairness as long as he likes them But.....

You can pick up JBL Studio 580's for $700/pair from time to time. I really love mine.

Translation - He bought big box speakers in a big box store. That's my issue.. I don't have a place to listen to Zu Audio speakers or Magnepan.. my only choice is to go to a big box store and listen to their offerings. ZU offers an really nice 30 day return policy, but I have to repack speakers and mail back. I'd rather not do that. But I guess it's an option. Best Buy sells some really nice speakers, but I'm limited in selections. But they have a listening room We used to have an awesome hifi shop in Lafayette decades ago.. late 1960s to mid 80s. I really miss that place. My friend runs a really nice Home Audio (more of a home theater) shop in Lafayette.. they sell Klipsch speakers and maybe one other brand. Not a lot of options. Not much of a listening room either. I do have a friend that owns Magnepan 1.7 (might have model wrong) , they sound beautiful with his setup, so I can only assume MMGs will sound pretty good. Kinda sucks to not have a place to really listen to music like the old days. MMGi's have a money back guarantee also. You won't return them though I've had two pair of MMG's with one still in rotation. I only sold the other pair as I moved and didn't have a loft for them. I'd love to get 1.7's or something similar in my office.

Listening to speakers before you buy is of course an excellent piece of advice. But many of us live in small towns or rural areas where the likelihood of finding such speakers to listen to is nil. Out of 12 sets of speakers that I have bought in my life, I think I was able to listen to only 4 pair beforehand. I guess that's why most people wind up with entry level Klipsch, Polk, Sony, Pioneer, JBL, Bose, and Insignia speakers - because they can hear them at a store.

My advice is to have him get a set of T1, If he has decent credit he can just finance them in the cart with Affirm. Try them at home for a couple of weeks and if its not for him he gets return labels to send them back. Chances are very good he will thank you for saving him $500, If he needs more bass than the T1 can provide he can spend the money he saved on a subwoofer. Your sonically not going to do any better than the T1 at its current price.

All became academic - He wandered into BestBuy & liked some Klipsch towers. Bought. Done. This has happened to me. You get asked for advice, you do your leg work for the person. Only to see that they were never really interested in your advice. As long as your friend is happy, then that's what matters. I hope he enjoys his speakers. Nowadays when I get asked for advice I ask for their price and whether they want multichannel. If its in the range of what they could get at retail stores, walmart, or amazon, I recommend they look there and because that's what they are going to do anyway. And they'll probably like the result.
