Is this a good price for Emotiva XPA-200 GEN 2 $375? I have been wanting to take some load off from my receiver. $499 new but the new A-300 resembles that amp Also keep this in mind, a brand new A-300 is $399 new from Emotiva and has a 3 year warranty, I would personally go that route instead here is the link for the XPA-200 Gen2 web.archive.org/web/20160314060220/http://emotiva.com/products/amplifiers/xpa-200

I don't think it resembles that amp! The XPA-200 is quite a bit beefier in build. XPA-200 Note they have separate XPA series amp blades per channel, more capacitance, heatsinks and no fans. A-300: Note a single amp blade for two channels, (maybe) less capacitance, small heatsink and a fan.

That little bit of difference between these two amps I could bet would be indistinguishable in terms of sound, I would rather have a new amp with warranty, power wise the A-300 has more power into 4ohms at the same THD, with my A-500 powering all 5 of my speakers and my XMC-1 at 0db(reference) the sound is powerful and so clean, I don`t base what an amplifier can or can`t do on the looks, I`m not sure why you are so hung up on assuming the older models of Emotiva amps are far superior to the new ones, I have owned many many amps from Emotiva and they have all been outstanding, the only complaint I have is the Gen 3 XPA pricing, especially purchasing in Canadian dollars, owning many new XPA Gen 1 and 2 models I the past I can no longer afford the Gen 3 models.

garbulky is correct; the two amps are not the same; never have been. The XPA-200 was a rebadged UPA-2 with XLRs added. The UPA-200 replaced the UPA-2. The XPA-200 was discontinued with the rest of the Gen 2 amps while the UPA-200 was rebranded the BasX A-300. That being said, I have owned both the UPA-2 and the A-300 and found the A-300 more to my liking. I would say that the UPA-2 was darker and more mellow compared to the punchy and clean A-300. I also found the A-300 to be a bit more resolving bringing sounds that were in the background with the UPA-2 more forward and easier to recognize.

You are right, Emotiva has never made a bad amp. Though I feel their biggest competition has been their own past. I have heard the A-300 and the UPA-2 (much more similar to the XPA-200) extensively. The A-300 does sound different. Neither are without their minor flaws but I would pick the UPA-2 and by extension - the XPA-200 to own. For me it was simply more involving and lifelike. Also having heard the gen 3 (non-DR models), I don't think you're missing out on much with those. Granted to each his own.

Your ears must be much better than mine haha, I can hear subtle to not so subtle differences in changes like a source or processor/preamp but amps not so much, I owned at the same time a UPA amp and XPA amp and I could notice every so slightly a difference in the sound but other than that most amps sound the same to me, especially a comparison between a UP-2 and UPA-200 which I have owned both of those. Chad I I honestly think my ears are pretty average. At times depending On how my health is doing, they are way below average! But I love the sound of acoustic instruments and play a lot of them too. So, I am very picky on certain things like tone and micro dynamics and less picky on others things. Fwiw My pal bzilla loves the a300.

I honestly would like to know what made in the USA amps you prefer. Schiit, Ayre, McIntosh Labs, Linear Tube Audio, Pass Labs, Rogue Audio...did I miss any? The USA grade comment was just a play on words using it with the word appetite in the sentence. ...not a fan of word play?

Personally I have heard about more quality problems since Emotiva brought assembly back to the US, then they had direct from China. It's hard to find quality experienced production workers down south, most are northern transfers. If I was going with a multi channel amp right now I would look around, there are plenty of manufacturers to choose from...including ToneWinner (at a lower price) which built Emotiva amps for a decade. I would lean towards Bryston for any future amps I buy, unless it were an absolute steal.
