Actually you're quite right... my bad there. We used the AD1955 on the XDA DACs, and on the DC-1, and on several of our CD players.
I would still say, however, that the AK4490 sounds a tiny bit better than both.
All of the new processors, including the XMC-2, the RMC-1, and the RMC-1L, use AKM AK4490 DACs. The XMC-1 used Analog Devices AD1955 DACs. While both sound very neutral, they do sound a tiny bit different. We think the AD1955 sounds very good, but we think the AK4490's sound a tiny bit better (but YMMV) . Actually, I'm pretty sure the XMC-1 uses Burr Brown DSD1796 DACs...

When it comes to what sounds better, that's a big personal preference, as we all know. Otherwise there wouldn't be so many options to choose from. I'm just saying that it's certainly possible someone "could" trade in their XMC-1 and not like the sound of their XMC-2 as well. Like say the Oppo 105 vs the 205. Many people don't like the new sound as well, even though on paper (tests) it is technically superior. I'll bet the people at Oppo think the 205 sounds better, but many would disagree. Comparing the XMC-1 to the Oppo 205 analog outs, the 205 sounds "fuller" and the XMC-1 is, perhaps, a bit brighter and more dynamic. I prefer the XMC-1 for movies. Any improvement is welcome. It seems like DAC sound alike but filtering matters. - Rich

Might want to check your glasses, unless you’re in a different country the prices have not changed and are $4999 and $2999 as they have been.

Now you get to see what us Canadians have to pay, oh and don't forget the 13% taxes my government likes to get and oh don't forget the crazy money UPS needs to take as well for bringing it across an imaginary line even though they already got paid to ship it Total landed Canadian cost will be about $4800 for an XMC-2 For me with the 25% UFL discount and if I ship it to the border and bring it across paying my taxes I'm looking at almost $3500

Take the XMC-1 with you “for warranty service” note it at the border. Then return with the “serviced” unit. No duty, no tax and no freight. Bonus holiday instead. Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary I would love to do that, my Dad and Stepmom went to Nashville about 5 years ago, i was so jealous lol. I might have to opt out of the XMC-2 now, had some unexpected costs at home which took out of my XMC-2 fund so now I'm mad at myself for selling the XMC-1, I sold it as it would have been right about the same as trading in, if I could sell more of my stuff I have listed that isn't moving it would be great haha, need to get rid of my 3 Chane towers, Airmotiv 6s, some rims for my truck I don't use but nothing is moving

Is there any official list or anything we need to do at this point? I do want to take advantage of the upgrade and don't want to miss out because I missed something mentioned in a thread...
Thanks!

I am in the process of trading in my XMC-1 for the RMC-1. Of interest to those contemplating this possibility, the following information is provided. I am sure that this info would also go for those considering the RMC-1L or XMC-2:
Following is a listing of the accessories along with their value and the info to be provided before the trade can continue:
"The individual value of the accessories is as follows:
Microphone: $30 Microphone stand with clip: $10 Microphone digitizer cable: $15 Remote control: $30 Power cord: $10 Radio antennas: $5 Packing Materials: $25
Before we are able to offer the trade, we will need to verify that you are eligible for the upgrade.
To begin the process, please reply to let us know you are ready. In your reply, please verify:
1. Shipping address for your new processor 2. Any missing accessories or packing material 3. Any known hardware issues with your XMC-1 (if applicable) 4. XMC-1 Serial Number 5. HDMI board version (if you know) 6. If you ordered from a dealer, please also include you purchase receipt"
This morning I have requested that the evaluation/return period be confirmed for the RMC-1. I have also asked what the status of a returned XMC-1 would be if for some reason the RMC-1/RMC-1L/XMC-2 upgrade unit was returned. Would the XMC-1 or replacement be returned or would a credit for the cost of the purchased unit be applied to our account. If I recall correctly, I saw (either here or an email to me from Emotiva) that the XMC-1 would not be returned.
That is about it. Will let all know what info I get back.
Best Regards,
Steve
