Hello,
I am a new XMC-1 owner and user of this forum.
I think I was affected by the firmware bug described here:
emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/54996/important-xmc-firmware-update-notice
I recently bought XMC-1 second hand from UK AVForums member and also purchased a full Dirac license from Emotiva. When setting up Dirac I was getting channel imbalance with the system configured as 5.2 in Stereo or Direct mode (left channel too quiet by around 3-5 dB) so I tried to see what would happen in 2.2 configuration. After the unit was turned off it failed to boot up again – it displays the Emotiva logo and the progress bar goes all the way to the right but then it displays the “Rethink High-End” message with all the buttons lit up to maximum brightness and stays like this forever. In this state, it does not react to any button presses other than a long middle button press which turns the unit off. During boot up the HDMI signal is passed through until the processor reaches the “Rethink High-End” message. When connected to network, Dirac software can see the unit but no sound is played when you try to configure it.
The previous owner updated the firmware to v.5.7 which I now discovered to my horror can brick the unit if it is configured to 2-channel. Unfortunately I was not aware of this until after the unit got bricked and I started to search the web and found KeithL’s message on this forum.
I ran the loopback test according to KeithL’s instructions I found here (including waiting for 2 minutes after the test screen shows up) and its shows:
ECC-1 Loopback Passed
MSP430 Loopback – FAILED – err:1
CEC Loopback I/O_FAILED
I have a few questions (I guess to KeithL’s mainly)
1. is there anything that can be attempted to fix it without having to ship the unit back ? Is there e.g. any way to reset to default configuration which would bring the speaker configuration back to default multichannel ? NB the unit was upgraded to HDMI 2.0 but I have the HDMI 1.4 board – would it work if the old board was installed (guess not).
2. the unit is under warranty but it is not transferred to me – I am trying to get it transferred but if it does not work, would Emotiva fix the problem assuming this is due to firmware bug (which given the circumstances looks very much so) ? I would argue the end user should not be able to brick the unit by choosing a valid option from the menu, so I hope Emotiva would help in this situation without charge ?
3. is there anyone in the UK who would be able to reflash the unit ?
Many thanks
Tomasz
