That’s a real bummer on these issues. It’s crazy how the standards doesn’t mean anything anymore.

That’s a real bummer on these issues. It’s crazy how the standards doesn’t mean anything anymore. It’s a bit of a bummer, but I have confidence that they will be sorted out via firmware update. Just to sum up my issues with the XMC-2 (in case anyone is interested): Firmware 1.5 - With Directv, sometimes audio will be lost when switching channels in full power mode (amp on). Solution is to toggle between stations to bring sound back. Firmware 1.7 - Video on Standby (unit off/no amp), video available, no audio. If I press the "speaker preset" or "loudness" button on the remote the sound will come through for about 3 seconds. I am back on 5.1 because we do use the video on standby function. I made Emotiva aware of the sound issue(s) and hope they can fix with a future firmware update. A little dissapointed, but I have confidence that they will fix the audio problems.

Can somebody with an Apple TV confirm if the DSP on the XMC-2 has solved the navigation "blip" issue? I had to disable UI navigation sounds on my ATV because it would cause an audible "hiccup". Apparently the DSP on the XMC-1 was to blame because it did something funky with mute vs. zeroed audio. I'm wondering if this was fixed on the XMC-2. Thanks I don’t have this problem with my XMC-1/ATV4K combo. Cheers Gary See link below for the problem I am having (turn up the volume). I am on the latest XMC-1 FW and it is still doing this. emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/52100/apple-tv-noticeable-pop-xmcIf the XMC-2 resolves this issue I am tempted to buy one.

Don’t fix everything so people upgrade to fix problems. I fell for it once, almost twice. And the original problem is still happening in round 3.

I currently have separate Hi-Fi and Home Cinema systems in different rooms, with an XMC-1 for the Cinema. I am moving house and plan to have a single dedicate media room and use an XMC-2 as the control unit. What I want to do is create two different configurations of my speakers that are selected according to the input and mode
Reference stereo – Input 1 (Analogue M/C Preamp) The front left and right speakers, Martin Logan Summit X, are configured as LARGE and handle the full audio range. All the surround, subs and atmos speakers are off.
Stereo mode - Input 1 (Analogue M/C Preamp) The front left and right speakers, together with the surround and atmos speakers are configured as SMALL and bass below 100Hz is handled with 2 SVS 4000 sub's in mono-mode. Phase and room equalisation is handled by the DSP engines in the subs using REW software.
Multi-Channel – The USB – A and all other HDMI inputs. Same configuration as Stereo mode.
I have read through the manual several times and although I can see that it is possible to set up two different presets, it is not clear that I can switch presets according to the selected MODE and INPUT.
Could anyone clarify this please.

I just started the install of my XMC-2 and thought I would take a break. It is going to take awhile since I am going from 7.2 to 9.2.6 and I am installing the 6 in the ceiling. Back to the XMC-2: 1) powered on w/o an issue 2) like others, the XMC-2 would not recognize the USB stick that it came with (no issue on the PC, tried re-formatting and copying 1.7 again and nothing). I tried the rear USB port and still nothing. 3) Used one of my own USB sticks and the update to FW 1.7 went off w/o any issue. 4) A slightly annoying issue that I experienced is that the buttons on the face of the XMC-2 are not always recognized when clicked rapidly. You have to hold them for 1/2 a sec (guess) and then they are always recognized. The remote works great.

Could anyone clarify this please. PJG Yes, this setup is almost the same I have. There’s a direct preset switch button on the remote. You can also preconfigure each input to have the preset you like through the programmable input buttons. There are seven of those to program. I have one configured to do a 100hz crossover all around, called Movie mode. Then I have the other with the fronts to large called Music mode. In this mode I have experimented with using large with enhanced bass lately. Now you can have subs come in when the speakers roll off instead of having double bass. This mode was totally unusable before. I got extreme excessive bass booming like crazy. I have these configured to my RMC-1. First is for tuner sadly. 2. HDMI 1 in LX800 4k bluray movies 3. HDMI 2 AppleTV 4k 4. HDMI 3 Dish receiver 1080p 5. HDMI 4 LX800 music only input (for multi channel playback or if I just like to use the RMC DACs) 6. HDMI5 Oppo BDP-103 bluray movies 7. Analog 1 in N-70AE music streamer 8. Balanced in LX800 music playback Then I have the following outputs. 1. Panasonic PT-AT6000 (US PT-AE8000) 1080p projector 2. Sony KD-65ZD9 (US Z9D) 4k TV

Seriously, unless you have a speaker that play well below 30hz it’s not a good idea. That excludes even most large front speakers for movies. I have my SVS Ultra towers that extends down to 28hz set to small with 100hz crossover. My subs handle bass much better below 35-40hz than the main speakers. I also use a subwoofer dsp that helps them play even cleaner up to 100hz and well above. There’s also another benefit from removing the bass from speakers, the play cleaner, voices and other effects sounds clearer. Then there’s then standing waves, best placement for bass units, usually not the same place we have our main speakers.

Thanks for your information. I hadn't seen the selection button on the remote to change speaker configuration. So I could set the analogue MC input to large fronts, reference stereo mode by default and then use the remote to switch to small with subs for stereo. Great!

Danny It's where you select the speaker sizes in setup. If you select "Small" you can use the right direction key where you will be able to set the crossover.

Has anyone managed to update their XMC-2 to v1.7 firmware? I've followed the instructions and have put the downloaded file (EmotivaUpdate-1-7-2019_11_13.dat) onto a USB FAT32 formatted flash drive. I have placed the file in the root directory, not inside a folder. I've inserted the drive into the front USB socket. When I go to Setup/Advanced/Firmware Update I just see "No Update File". Do I need to rename the update file to something else? Can anyone help please? Thanks.

Try another USB stick, while I’ve not run into this, some owners have had USB sticks for some reason or another not play nice and just don’t get recognized by the processor.
