So I replaced my XMC-1 with my new XMC-2 and matched all my equipment to the same inputs as on the XMC-1. I use a Harmony remote, and was hoping that I would not have to do too much reprogramming of the Harmony. All my devices (3 on HDMI-1 through HDMI-3) on HDMI work just fine -- exactly as they did when I had the XMC-1. However, my SONOS, which is on Coax-1 is not working. When I use the Harmony commands to listen to SONOS, the XMC-2 switches the input to Coax-3. Does anyone know what XMC-2 input matches to the code for XMC-Coax-1. I guess I can go down the trial and error method path, but hopefully someone out there can at least narrow down the options. Why not just plug the Sonos into Coax 3? You obviously have not moved equipment in my cabinet :-) So after some experimentation I learned that the remote code for Coax 1 and Coax 3 are swapped between XMC-1 and XMC-2. So if you have a programmable remote like a Harmony that you used with your XMC-1 and want to continue to use it with a XMC-2, and you use the Coax inputs, configure the remote to use Coax 3 if you actually want Coax 1, and vice-versa. Coax 2 remains unchanged.

My XMC2 audio intermittently cuts out when cable TV goes to a non-surround commercial. Happens whether set to Auto or Surround. Changing presets worked once or twice, but now that just causes it to freeze in Please Wait. Requires off and on again to clear. Also happened after a fast forward on the DVR. Didn’t start until after firmware update. Updated again with all components disconnected method, but no improvement. My old UMC did this all the time . Was so happy when XMC1 didn’t have the issue. BTW had cable company give me the latest model new in the box set top box about 10 months ago.
Another issue. Had preferences set to TV cable as default input at power on. XMC would literally take 3-4 minutes of recycling to come on with sound and picture on TV. Changed to last used input and now it’s not as fast as XMC1, but faster. Every change seems to take 15-30 second Please Wait.
Sounds marginally better than XMC1, but hard to tell without Dirac which has now gone from “holidays time” to maybe Q1. Financially seemed like a good deal, but exasperating entertainment experience buzz kill issues are giving me second thoughts.
Any similar experiences or advice. Thanks.

I had t switch back to 1.5 from 1.7 because of an issue. I use Video on Standby because my wife doesn't always want surround on. The problem with 1.7 was that there would be no sound with the XMC-2 in standby mode. Just picture. Turning the XMC-2 on fully (amps), would of course bring the sound back. Purpose defeated. Going back to 1.5 solved that issue. The other issue I have is that with Directv every once in awhile the sound would drop out when switching channels of if a commercial came on. Doesn't always happen, but when it does I switch between speaker presets on the remote to bring the sound back. I have not checked to see what version of audio is being produced. I have never had a freeze in Please Wait because of this. What version firmware are you on? If 1.7, maybe go back to 1.5 to see if that helps. It sounds counter-intuitive to go backwards, but I'm hoping these audio issues will be addressed in the next firmware update.

Any similar experiences or advice. Thanks. Apart from cawgijoes idea maybe add a spdif optical or coax cable to your cable box temporarily until a new firmware turns up

Thanks for the great suggestions. I’m going to try an optical cord to the cable box and see if that helps. Hopefully the next version of firmware solves a lot of these minor but annoying issues. It really is a great unit and a good deal.

Got everything connected and running on 1.7 and I'm having the same 'video on standby' issues as cawgijoe, but with different sources. I submitted the details to Emotiva customer support a few days ago. My sources for video are a PS4 Pro and an Xbox 1X. The Xbox was working with sound in video on standby mode until recently. Now both sources have video and no sound in this mode. Hitting the 'loudness' or 'speaker preset' buttons on the remote yields approximately 3 seconds of audio just as cawgijoe referenced earlier. I will probably just wait for Emotiva's response and/or the new firmware update. I don't use either of the sources much, and the Xbox is my only 4k blu ray player at the moment so I will use it for movies from time to time.
Speaking of movies... and essentially every other function that I have been using of the XMC2; they seem to be working fine. The sound is as I've come to expect from Emotiva gear. I'm running 7.1 for now and the 2ch stereo mode with the subwoofer. I had never user XLR connections before other than my sub connection with my UMC1, so I've been experimenting with them between my DAT, and the Cambridge Audio Azur 851N network streamer and the sound is great. I ended up running balanced out of the 851N into the DAT and balanced out into the XMC2 and using the record/monitor function of the DAT to hear the streamer. I'm also using the AES/BEU out of the DAT and running it into the 851N as another way to put the DAC within it to work. Can I say that it is also oddly satisfying plugging the cables in? It just seems like there is an added since of assurance after you hear the 'click' that you will not have to go back and check the connection. Also simplistic and while the back of my rack is still a rat's nest, it's somehow less so with these cables.

Theres nothing like the click of an xlr cable kierre ; rca's can be too tight or lose a socket.. I thought it was a misspell for a dac for a second but then realised you really are running a vintage DAT recorder . Do you still make recordings or have trouble sourcing tapes ? If you were in Aus I have a sony minidisc player that theoretically would be an upgrade if the tape started shredding . Ignore that lame joke mate . good to hear your happy until the next firmware ; a good uhd disc player like a pana will improve on the xbox and probably be better due to its compliance generally with the hdmi standards such as they are .. www.thevintageknob.org/sony-DTC-ZA5ES.html

I cut my teeth on the Sony TA-2000ESD pre-amp processor with all relative ES gear at the time. My first DAT deck was the Sony DTC-75ES which I still have but stopped functioning about 4/5 years ago, which lead me to replace it with the ZA5ES that you referenced. Unfortunately, it also died after two weeks and it took several years of searching (when I got the chance to do so) to finally find someone who said they could repair it. I found Prodigital Inc. out of PA. and they were not able to repair the ZA5ES, but were able to place the drive mechanism in the PCM-500 and get me back up and running (hence, the FrankinDAT reference in my signature). When it dies, I'm probably done with the format, but I have enjoyed the ride. The Panasonic UB9000 is on my list as the next piece of gear, and then I need to find a deal on a 4K projector. I'm hoping that the UB9000 suffices as decent audiophile CD player as well.

View Attachment A nice looking player the Sony ; everything has to be black these days The pro PCM500 really looks the business though ;it must be very rare and a collectable to someone one day. The UB9000 has unique abilities for 4k hdr with a JVC N series projectors but has extra options over the UB820 for projectors and presets for oleds and lcd sets as well ;unlike other brands www.soundandvision.com/content/jvc-panasonic-team-optimize-big-screen-hdrthough the N series now has even better compatibility with players with its scene/frame by frame HDR optimisation . If you cant stretch to a JVC Ime also looking at a Epson tw9400 [6050] due to its high nit level for hdr . I hope you get a good deal ; down here in Aus the price of JVC globes is not what it used to be Anyway;best back on topic

Hey guys proud new owner of the Xmc-2 here! I’ve been drooling over the unit since launch and finally bought one. I’m coming from a marantz sr7012 and will be hooking it up to a dr3 for the front channels and an xpa-7 for the rears and atmos speakers on my 5.2.4 setup. I began digging through this thread as I’m fairly new on this website but an avid member of avsforums.
I remember reading that the Xmc-2 may not be able to be upgraded to the HDMI 2.1 standard due to space. Anyone know if this is true or not? It’s not required for me but would be nice as I move towards high refresh gaming and really enjoy what eArc brings to the table. I’m sure this has Been answered but I can’t find it anywhere easily.
It seems most of the bugs have been fixed minus slow handshake and menus. Any other out of the box issues I should be on the look out for?

On the HDMI upgrade the board on the XMC-2 is modular (meaning it can be replaced) and Emotiva has said in the past that they would provide an upgrade (at a cost) for the unit when it was needed. Past history on the XMC-1 tells you that Emotiva May offer an upgrade, but it won’t be right when HDMI 2.1 comes out it will be much later in the product cycle.

I know they did it for the xmc-1 but I thought I read something about the full HDMI 2.1 spec needing more room that the xmc-2 might not be able to support so that’s reassuring. Like I said before it’s not a dealbreaker by any means but nice to know with the addition of Dirac and HDMI 2.1 I do not see myself needing to upgrade for quite some time which makes the large purchase much easier to swallow.

I believe the HDMI 2.1 comment was referring to the XMC-1 and that they’d need to add daughter board to get HDMI 2.1 or eARC, in any case I think davidl81 ’s comments are apt.

Just found out how I can listen from the beginning using Tidal on the XMC2 in exclusive mode (this is the best mode for superior sound). It’s a rather crude solution but it works - wanted to listen to the beginning of an Ed Sheeran song. Solution: Just go to the song before and click to FF to the the last 5-6 seconds. Works like a charm! Lol. Except if it’s the first track of an album. Then it’s more complicated. 🤦♂️ Note: Tidal tracks with that orange MASTER label sound unbelievable. Note 2: Please fix this. I have the XMC2.

My recollection too [now you've jogged the marbles upstairs] somewhat . It was an answer to the current hdmi2.0b board having E-ARC capability [no] and will need the 2.1 board that is being worked on This board wont be a do it yourself option like the 2.0b board but due to complexities will be a factory job. The nice thing is it will be interfacing with the same main board in all of them rather than a separate TI board like the XMC1 - when it turns up but ..

Just curious when’s the HDMI-DSD enhancement is happening?
Will this change only affect when changing inputs or will it also speed up the syncing when we start a song and there is a 2 second delay?
