Indeed ; cant tell if he's putting the boot into the 8805 or audyssey xt32 as he wasn't impressed with its eq . If the 8805 had a different philosophy about it[without listing things] ; it would be more appealing I feel

IMHO, Audyssey is like driving a Ford Pinto compared to Dirac being a high-end BMW.

Having said that... one of the devices doesn't have either 😉. It's interesting that that the bulk of the RMC-1 problems now are mostly solved by using good quality 8k or really good quality 4K HDMI cables (not necessarily expensive).

I feel that the Audysey XT32 in my Marantz 8805 is great in my room with my gear and I had a XMC-1 with Dirac, just my opinion. With that being said I am selling my 8805 for 2800 shipped to buy a RMC-1 but only because I need more channels than the Marantz gives me at 13.2 channels.

I totally look forward to his dedicated RMC-1 review.
Does this review really surprise anyone? The RMC-1 sounds better. Even on $65 Sennheiser headphones at work can I hear that. (I do question his statement about sound levels because on some of the examples the RMC-1 clearly sounds louder to me). Not surprised.
The RMC-1 will excel at sound (SQ, Dirac, and EQ), number of channels, and 2 sided front readout vs limited porthole. The Marantz will excel at "its just works", speed of operation, input options, and modern day features.
Pick your poison.
I just wish we could have both at the same time without compromise. Trade offs suck.

So though the tones are similar in volume one may have more bass than the other.

That aside, on the music parts you can definitely hear a difference (regardless of volume) in tonality between the 2.

So comparing my RMC-1 to my AV8802A (pretty similar to the AV8805) I find the difference in HT use small but notable. RMC-1 seems a little more dynamic than the AV8802A, but not a night and day difference, just a slight step up. Two channel is a whole different animal. Reference stereo is amazing compared to the AV8802A. I posted the other day that I had to check several times if my subs were on because I had never heard my Mirage speakers produce that quality bass before on the AV8802A. That was the moment where it all made sense for me. Now I do miss some of the features of the AV8802A (spotify connect, really easy to setup etc), but honestly that matters so little after I heard how good the RMC sounded. I do wonder that I am now seeing the benefit of a fully balanced system since in two channel I am going into my DR-2 which is also fully balanced?

I know I know two different machines but I found exactly the same thing between my XMC-1 and AV7702 even though some don't believe me, I would easily put even my XMC-1 up against the 8805, the XMC-1 in reference 2ch has amazing clarity compared to any other gear I have owned, I care more about SQ than features in my processor as I have many other devices that do all that for me. Glad you are enjoying the RMC-1, the balanced path should help but I'm not sure to a crazy extent, I have owned the XPA-1L's and XPA-5 and XMC-1 at the smae time and I could discern no difference using either amp sound wise. Chad Chad, Yeah, I do think the fully balanced has very little to do with anything. I'm pretty sure its just the difference in the RMC-1 versus the AV8802, much like what you saw between the XMC-1 and the 7702. There is a part of me that feels "cool" about it being fully balanced on the L/R channels. I have this thought of "there is no compromise in this setup (relative to price point of course)", and that does make me happy.

So what changed since your last post saying the delta between 8802 and RMC wasn't very much ? Because it appears you've gone from "not much difference" to "leaps and bounds".. Just my own personal curiosity as I AM strongly considering an xmc-2.

In HT use it’s an upgrade, but as I said it’s not night and day. But the 2 channel stuff is pretty awesome. I very much wonder how much better the HT will be with Dirac.

So though the tones are similar in volume one may have more bass than the other. Could be but I ran both of them back to back and the RMC absolutely, without question sounded better. It was as pronounced as when I upgraded my speakers and amps. It is much cleaner, audio is less compressed sounding, dead quite noise floor, and excellent clarity and stage. And this was without room correction.
Not coming from a bias point of view as I returned my RMC for an 8805 and am waiting for all the bugs to be worked out. Perhaps I switched too soon but I got frustrated with having no room correction and the few bugs (very few) were frustrating.
