Bummer, but sounds like one of the amps is not sensing the correct voltage, ie 240 vs 120. Memory tells me these amps are auto sensing for correct voltage, but some of the Emotiva gear does not. Depending on how comfortable you are with looking into amps I would suggest you take the top lid off, that part is easy enough, unplugged of course. See if any ribbon cables or similar came loose and or disconnected during shipping. This happened to me not once but twice when I ordered the XMC-1. Had to return the first two but had I known the issue at the time it would have been any easy fix on my part.
As garbulky says check all fuses too.

So I installed the two amps and only get sound out of one of them. Strangely, the 230v light is lit on the back of the amp that won't work. I've tried: - changing out the speaker cables - changing out the power cord - the balanced rocker switch is set correctly - the amps are plugged directly into the wall. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I emailed Emotiva about it. Usually the obvious problem is that the balanced rocker switch is connected to RCA rather than XLR. Since you figured that out, it's possible you received a bad amp. Perhaps it's something simple like a fuse. Thanks. Where do I find the fuses? There is the top cover and two plates on bottom.

I'm not the only one to have this problem. Looks like most/all of them went back to Emotiva. It's a major bummer to wait for delivery, then tear your cabinet apart only to find out one of them doesn't work.

Looking into the slots from the top of the amps using a strong task light I could not see any fuses, however on either side about midway between front and back there are ribbon cables. I would encourage you to investigate this if nothing else.

The XPA-1 Gen2 is a fully differential amplifier - which uses two output modules in a bridged configuration. When operated in stereo, the XPA-2 is not fully differential, so has a slightly different set of distortion spectra. (I'm not going to get into the discussion about how audible that is in a particular situation.) I appreciate everyone's opinions. Amps get people fired up! I have really liked using the XPA-2 since I moved over to it from my XPA-5 to drive my mains. No issues with it and seems to have plenty of power. Outside of the obvious bragging rights of having monoblocks (and trust me there is a whole bunch of that in my thinking) is the fully differential amplifier, matched with my fully differential preamp, really going to provide an audible improvement or is it just more bragging rights? Trying to decide if the extra $1000 that will be coming out of my pocket will be worth it. As another point of reference, I had the XPA2 gen2 for a short time. I only had it for a short time because back then I only had the XPR5 and wanted to go 7.1. So I bought the XPA but found a XPR2 a few months later and subsequently sold the XPA. In my experience with Emotiva amplifiers starting with the XPA5 gen1, I always felt the XPA amps (XPA5 gen1 and XPA2 gen2) were “mid-fi” in that they were noisy (lots of hiss) and lacked a refined sound. The XPR amps were far better. I’ve never heard the XPA1 monos but have heard the XPR1s that took things to another level from my XPRs. If the XPA1s are as good or better than the XPR1s, then I’d say it should be a substantial improvement if you have the speakers and other gear to bring out the improvements in sound quality. Meaning, if someone has $500 speakers, don’t spend $2k on amps, that’s all.

A search revealed the following; UPDATEIt was the fuses! for anyone that has to do this: unplug the amp from all connections turn it upside down ( if doing it on the floor, suggest placing towel or similar on floor before) you will see a rectangular plate towards the front on the underside. Unscrew only the 12 peripheral screws turn the plate over there are 3 fuses present In my case the first fuse ( counting from the front ) which I believe is for the display , was fine The second and third fuses were clearly blown ( dark discoloration ) I replaced them with two 10 amp 125 volt , 20 mm fuses I picked up from Radio Shack ( packet of 4 for less than 4 bucks) Amp now works fine!! Cheers Gary

I buttoned it back up and tried the amp plugged into another outlet to see if there was any change. Powers on on just fine but still shows 230v light on the back.

Not thrilled about having to send a 75 lb amp out for more trips cross country but hopefully I'll have it back before Christmas.

Currently enjoying being a monoblock owner. I'll post some thoughts after I break them in. Liking them so far though.
