To go with the Sonore Signature SE Small Green Computer sonicTransporter i5 CDR (server/ripper w 1 TB SSD) Scott Those and the ultrarendu require extensive break-in periods. I can handle that for you - free of charge! Mark

I'm perplexed for sure...

I'm perplexed for sure... I am using it as a Roon server. I have little ability to explain anything to you as I am not computer savvy enough to do so and am totally new to streaming music.
I didn't take it any way other than to be puzzled by what seems like some hostility on your end; I'm guessing toward the product since we've never had any bad dealings here?
From what I understand I need a server to run Roon and this unit has reviewed very well for it's purpose which is a solid plug n play device to act as a server.

No more rip off ink jet printer. I never print pictures anyway. Going with the Brother HL-5100 Laser Printer. 42ppm and runs on toner thank you. over a 1000 pages before I even think about ink again. My Espon was 100 maybe if it didn't dry out first.

I watched that same review of the sonicTransporter i5 before I bought mine (received my shipping notice today and it will be here Monday!). I think the answer to LuisV's question is: it will fit in a rack. That's why its so big when what's inside doesn't take up that much room. It's also a well built solution for those of us that don't want to build a computer or use a MacMini. Plug & Play is the beauty of it!

Yea, sorry Scott... didn't mean to come across negatively or otherwise in any way, so please accept my appologies as it wasn't meant that way at all. I was simply curious as to what makes this different than say, a regular PC, Mac, Nuc or otherwise, serving up music files or acting as a Roon Server. If it's due to ease of use and plug n play, I get it. Just confused because once the data leaves the server and enters the network, I would assume that could potentially impact the sonic quality at the client end. Again, sorry... just confused about the technology.

I understand the plug n play aspect and based on the internal components, I can gather why it's in a 1U rack mount chasis. Please see my other post as I'm simply confused as to how it all works, because once the data leaves the server, enters the network, I assume the ethernet cable, the switch and or router ports, would be the weak link of the signal chain, so I'm simply confused as to how it maintains or enhances the sond quality is all. Again... sorry if I came across the wrong way, thats what I get for rushing while posting.

Was just confused about what you meant and wanted to be sure I didn't buy something that was a turd or find out that I could have done the job in a smarter way. One of the biggest reasons I am on here; to learn from others and maybe help out here and there if I can. Scott

Again... sorry if I came across the wrong way, thats what I get for rushing while posting. No problem. I looked back at your other posts but see didn't anything else besides your question posed to Scott on this subject. The i5 sonicTransporter is a music server. It's purpose is solely to play music. This is from the Small Green Computer website: The sonicTransporter i5 replaces your desktop, laptop, Mac mini, etc... to provide the premier solution for those wanting more from their home computer audio experience. With a simple to use web-based interface (no separate keyboard, mouse, or monitor required), the sonicTransporter i5 will have you playing music across your network quickly and easily. The sonicTransporter i5 runs Roon Server, HQPlayer (embedded), Squeezebox Server, Plex Media Server and MinimServer (DLNA server). Attach a USB drive full of music or a NAS and your music will be available to virtually any network player. Add up to 4TB SSD internal storage when ordering. With an i5 processor and SSD (for your music database), the sonicTransporter i5 is perfect for lightning fast access to your music. Attach a Sonore Rendu series player to your USB DAC to have a complete digital transport solution. The one Scott ordered has a CDR drive so he can rip his CDs to FLAC. I have a BluRay drive I use to do that so I ordered the base model with a 1 TB SSD. After using the MacMini for the last couple of years, I was unhappy with all of the other 'computer OS' aspects of it I had to deal with. Sometimes it would go to sleep, or I'd have to reboot it, delaying my music listening (I know, I'm impatient. I'm well aware). This just helps me play my streaming music via Roon on a low latency server. The server will feed my ultraRendu. This is where any noise from the server will be quieted on the way to my USB DAC. Some here will say enhanced. Hopefully this explains it. If not, check out Sonore and Small Green Computer's websites though I kind feel they are light on info too. I would also check out the Microrendu - First Impressions thread - emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/53894/microrendu-first-impressionsJason

One thing that surprised me was how little of HP software garbage was running on this laptop, plus I went in and deleted pretty much all the HP crap haha, want to keep it as clean as possible, have only installed Tidal and Dirac so far Chad
