I recently acquired an Emotiva UMC-200 pre/pro I'm going to use in my home theater for processing, and will use my existing Sunfire TGR-3 A/V receiver for amplification via the 7.1 analog inputs.
My question is - where do I set the volumes, and what device do I set the listening volume with?
My thought was to statically set the Emotiva pre/pro to near max volume and leave it fixed, while using the Sunfire volume knob to control listening volume.
I purely want to use the Sunfire receiver for amplification only. It has (what I consider) one of the best amps ever produced. I've never owned anything so powerful and dynamic yet produces no heat.
Can the Emotiva UMC-200 be driven at max volume without clipping?
I do have an oscilloscope, so I could test the outputs for clipping somehow (I think, never done it before).
Any thoughts or other suggestions?
Sunfire lacks TrueHD or any of the other uncompressed formats (only does HDMI video switching), so I'm using the Emotiva to get me the latest formats (aside from Atmos).
