Which front sound stage mode [Pre-Pro] do you prefer for 3+ channel listening [LCR]? Seems some recommend All Channel Stereo, some Dolby Pro Logic and others DTS. I'm listening at the moment in DTS while streaming from Qobuz. From what I understand All Channel Stereo is stereo w/ a mono center while Dolby and DTS provide real center output and subtract that output from the L and R?

I'm really enjoying the DTS 3 channel processing. In the past I've heard people attempt such mode but complained the center channel always sounded boomy or funneled through a long tube. I'm not experiencing that whatsoever. What I have noticed is that w/ All Channel Stereo the front stage flattens and the imaging disappears. That's not the case for either Dolby or DTS.
As to boominess, I guess that'll depend on the Pre-Pro and whether one utilizes a sonically matched center to the L and R?

I love that “classic” Sinatra pic....been out there for years on the web. It also underscores the fact that center channel listening is nothing new. Nearly impossible to rely on any one “seudo” mode for the center, since there is no standardization of stereo like 5.1 lossless. DTS etc. I just play with the modes and levels. The XMC makes an easy task of that. Bill

Love Frank Sinatra.
