I am putting together a 2-ch system for my main TV room (not my main listening room). I have an A-100 amp already but no other components. I need speakers and I’m really struggling to find the right match for my set-up and needs. I’m seriously thinking about the Elac Debut 2.0 B6.2. The only bad thing I can read about them is they lose dynamics at lower volumes, probably due to their low sensitivity and they are 6 ohm.
So, this leads me to the question, is the A-100 suitable for them? I can run a different amp... the absolutes are: sitting up on a mantle (so I like the front ports), running full range (so I like the low range extension), there will be a sub for support still, this will not be surround, if I get a different amp it has to be small form.
Or, I can go a completely different direction. Thoughts?
Sorry for the rambling. This has been a difficult system to design based on my restrictions and budget!

I'll chime in. The Elacs are fine budget speakers, but for less $ and a smaller size the B1+ cannot be beat. For a little more cash, I have a pair of Klipsch RP-600M's that rival the sound of many floor standing speakers and they are a high sensitivity speaker which would work well wit the A-100.

Thanks for your input. I’ve been looking at those same Klipsch... just trying to not to spend the money. I’ll definitely take another look.

Over the holidays, Klipsch had the 600M speakers priced at $439, which is a steal! I see they are back up to $630. If you can handle the size the Elacs are great speakers for the money. With any speaker, you are going to be somewhat challenged if they are tight up against a back wall.

Seriously looking at the B1+ now. Even though they are rear ported, they’re smaller so I can probably move them out from the wall a bit.

They won't be like your Dali's, but I doubt they will dissapoint!

They won't be like your Dali's, but I doubt they will dissapoint! HaHa! Yeah. Well, at my work I have a pair of Dayton indoor/outdoor speakers mounted high on the wall, a Dayton 10” sub, an old RCA receiver connected via headphone out from the computer that runs the display. It sounds awesome for the situation. There is NO imaging and it doesn’t even approach accuracy. But I like it anyway. This system will do much better and I still don’t expect audiophile quality... just approaching it.

I have the Debut 6.2 and they will run fine with the a100. I know. I did it. It does always benefits from more power but if a reasonable size room is in play the a100 and Debut 6.2 will do great. A living room, better have a Subwoofer and more power like an a300 for the headroom. 6.2 is an easy drive, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Your choice, your money. Can't comment on the B1. Never lived with them. But have had the Debut 6.2 for over two years, and they do very well. One of the best bargain speakers still that money can buy.

Here is my dilemma, and honestly it might not make much difference due to neither is ideal....
With the Emo B1 there will be some room to move it out from the wall and since they are rear ported that is a good thing. The wife will probably want to push them back, but I can fight that battle.
The Elac will need to essentially be right next to the wall, with a bit of room to toe them in without hanging off the edge (the mantle is 13”). They are front ported, but I’m sure they would still like some breathing room.
I’m sure I’d be happy with either. Just putting my thoughts out there before I make a decision.

Main thing is to get what makes sense. This is for you. Lots of great bookshelves out there. Don't buy what others tell you to buy. Get what you want. You and your family will hear and see them everyday. We are here to help.

You and your family will hear and see them everyday. We are here to help. Oh, I’m 100% down with that. I use the forums to collect other people’s opinions and experiences before I make up my mind. And I can always sell them and buy something else... I’ve done that too!

ALMOST made up my mind. I decided the Elac 6.2 is simply too big. I am leaning towards the Elac Debut 2.0 5.2 now (Because of the front port). I asked a small reviewer that has reviewed both the Elac and Emo and he agreed that he would lean towards Elac, but the Emo would possibly be small enough to work.

Ended up with the Elac Debut 5.2. Glad I did. Even with the front port I get some boomy bass. Moved them all the way to the edge and it helps.
They sound great and I’m happy with my choice. Thanks for all the feedback and help.

The Klipsch is a very entertaining speaker. If I didn't have the Elacs already, they would be in my room for sure by the way.
