Hi Emotiva-Team, I would like to unleash the full potential of my XMC-2 and like to use more my front wides. But there is not much nativ content in the market. A lot of nativ Atmos tracks doesn‘t use front wides. It would be great if you could update in the near future (next 6 month) your Emotiva range with DTS-X Pro and the new version of the DSU like the Denon Marantz products(they received this update last november) Overall I‘m very happy with my XMC-2 but I like to use more my 9.1.4. setup. Many thanks in advance! Regards, Ben

I can only agree with that. Or for the beginning a new DSU for 9.1.6. Would also go with DTS since Dolby has dropped his dominance.

You will need DSU V1.6 integrated into the XMC/RMC firmware. Unfortunately that comes with the center bleed problem so upmixing to wides is not "free".

For example, the movie Red, just before the big shootout at Frank's house, there's a really tiny amount of music coming from the Wides for about a minute, then it's as loud as the Surrounds. It's never as loud as the Fronts. To check all this I only have the amp channels for the Wides active, otherwise it's impossible to tell that they are producing any audible sound.

No not every Atmos soundtrack has front wide support. As an example, all Disney Atmos tracks are „only“ mixed in 7.1.4 for the home release. Especially for Upmixers is the new DSU and Neural X version great. In a lot of countries you don’t have an Atmos mix in your language on disc. Here is a good upmixer is very important. (and old releases)

As an example , all Marvel movies have no front wide support in their Atmos mix. It‘s a fixed 7.1.4 Mix.

Thx for this article and it looks like that the problem only exist with 2channel music. But I wanna use the DSU to hear 5.1 or 7.1 content on my 9.1.4 setup with the usage of all speakers :-)

No it doesn‘t Upmix Atmos. Also the current DSU (Dolby Surround Upmixer) is mixing up 5.1 or 7.1 to your Atmos layout but without the usage of the front wides. This is only possible with the updated version. It‘s like the updated Neural-X upmixer (DTS-X Pro) The old one could only use and upmix 4 channel of your heights.

We can only hope that at some point the diagram will read more yes. And an expansion of DSU (9.1.6) and DTS-X-Pro (9.1.6) is taking place. until a new update comes, I have created my own upmixer. i use the real center mode(https://www.audiotec-fischer.de/en/knowledge-base/DSP-PC-Tool/sfx/) in my dsp and create a new channel. internally in the dsp I can generate my own channel through routing or switch to the original (7.x) or Atmos (9.x).I was surprised how well that works and amazing sounds. So I can always use all speakers to change everyday when needed. Through 2 more DSP I will also generate 2 other channels to try the Tri-Center concept of Magnepan. I hope it works as I wish it.

Love your setup especially for dts content without wide speakers and the center rear can you elaborate on your setup more hi, I haven't heard dts atmos yet, just briefly. I can only explain differences in sound if the setup (DSU) is right for me. magnepan LS are not easy to align. I use dsu most often and think it's great with the additional calculations. The rear back center is generated by signals from back left and right and is active in every sound system. this is controlled by the dsp in the real center mode. this is exactly how the middle surround left and right is generated. there is already a plug-in from mini-dsp as a back center. I hope I was able to make it understandable. unfortunately i have to use google translation.
