I just purchased an XMC-1 and will be using the Balanced connections for the main front 3 channels. For the surrounds and sub, the connections are unbalanced. Is it best to use an adapter from Balanced to unbalanced (using the Balanced connection) or just use the unbalanced connection directly. Since Balanced is usually +4, I would think it would be best to use adapters but just wanted to check with the group to see what the thoughts are. Many thanks!

You will get the voltage of the Unbalanced termination since only one Hot will be used. If the distance from XMC-1 is less than 6 feet, it's not really worth the effort of the conversion. If it's a long distance, like 20 feet, then you can use something like this: It allows for balanced all the way until close to the second component. You still will not get the extra voltage because it's an unbalanced output, but you get the other benefits of using a balanced cable. When my rack was 22 feet from the amps this is what I used. Not cheap, very well made, high quality audio conversion.

I agree, just use a good RCA up to 20’.

I have run the XMC1 DEAD silent for over 6 years using high quality RCA. “silent” is the key because that’s really what this is all about.
