Sad RIP ….what a comeback story he had. Indeed. I first saw him in '72 when he played a free concert at Drexel University in Philadelphia each term for the jazz class. I later played drums with one of his students for a few years, and sat in with a couple of his noted side men like Eddie Green. Last saw him live and in good form at Newport Jazz Festival 2015 and got a few photos.

The guitarist from the fusion band I was in took lessons from Pat in his Philly row home back then. I went along a couple times.

The guitarist from the fusion band I was in took lessons from Pat in his Philly row home back then. I went along a couple times. Wow! I played with this one guy from '74 to '84. I never actually talked to Pat, but I peed next to him once in the men's room at Drexel Saw him play lots of times. That last time at Newport in 2015 he was in very good form. I heard he played sitar also. And that he drew graphic designs and slipped them under the guitar strings to make up melodies. From the band in the 70's (Eddie Green, Tyrone Brown, Sherman Ferguson) Sherman moved to California and apparently died young. Eddie was around Philly playing at Ortlieb's and other places in the late 90's. I sat in with him at Ortlieb's a couple times and at a restaurant in Montgomery county too. He died a few years ago.

Wow, great memories. Pat had an ability to do that fast endless improvisation on and on not having to pause or run out of notes.. Sad to see still another great artist leave us, but we still have his gift of music.
