I have a 5.1 system with an XPA-5 as the main Amp. I am interested in adding a 2 channel tube Amp just for music. I would like to use my existing L/R speakers for the 2 channel use. How have you guys accomplished this?

I'd suggest keeping it simple and using the tube amp for L & R and don't use or repurpose the other two channels in your XPA-5.

How have you guys accomplished this? I seem to remember klinemj doing that as part of a sophisticated subwoofer setup. Mark? I also have a separate pair of tube amps for L/R, but have separate speakers as well. I do turn the correct amps on and off with triggers.

Do not turn on a tube amp without speakers connected. Ever.

Do not turn on a tube amp without speakers connected. Ever. 2-Way Amp Amplifier Receiver to 1 One Pair of Speakers Selector Switch Switcher Splitter Combiner This or similar would do the job. ….As Audiobill say’s powering amps with no load is a big no no, so discretion is paramount.

I'll have to dig up the link to my thread on that. Mark

How have you guys accomplished this? You can do what I did, I split the LR outputs from the preamp and sent them to both the XPA200 and the XPA7, I have the triggers on the receiver turning on the XPA200 on only for stereo, when I press anything for home theater then the XPA7 turns on, I love it. I do have 2 sets of speakers though, but if you can do what I did you should be fine, if you can't then have only one amp on, or have speaker wires for each amp going to the speakers and disconnect one set and connect the other set..

I use my two main speakers in both two channel or HT, simple switch before powering up. You can make them with XLR connections as well.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like either a purchased or DIY switch set up will do the trick. One question on the tube amp. I assume (dangerous) that a tube amp with no load (speaker) will overvoltage the transformers if it is powered up. Would a relatively simple device like a MOV surge suppressor do the trick on the output, or is a"dummy" load required?
