Hello! Just received my new SE8 sounds great as a part of my desktop system. I have it set to auto turn on and off but the turn on sensitivity seems to be low. It doesn't turn on when I start playing music unless the volume is high or I play a bass heavy song. If I'm playing a song without much bass at a less than high volume the SE8 will shut off and then not turn back on. Is that by design or do I possibly have a defective unit?

It's normal. The best choice for sensitivity always involves a bit of a tradeoff. If the sensitivity is too high the unit remains on due to occasional background noise... And, if the sensitivity is too low, it doesn't remain on. (And not all music actually has a lot of content that uses the subwoofer anyway.) Just leave it on. Hello! My main speakers are the same way. The volume needs to be higher than normal listening for general tv watching for them to react. It's just the way it is.

This seems to be a common problem with many devices, though mostly subs, class d power amps, and some powered speakers (it’s been mentioned many times in many threads). It would seem, at least on all but the most budget conscious products, that a sensitivity control would eliminate this grief. But leaving stuff on is not my thing.

Sensitivity on works great for my multi channel amp. Subwoofer, not so well for the reasons discussed here. Actually, I defeated that so long ago that I forgot I had it. for the subwoofer, I have a full function wireless remote and that’s the best way to go.
