Hi friends. I’m in need of a cable box to connect the coaxial cable coming into the room and connecting it to my UMC-200 VIA HDMI. I’d prefer not to rent a “cable box” from the provider as this tv only gets basic service. I would however like to run the audio through the UMC-200. Is anybody familiar with the box I will need. I just need a straight through without any descrambling or such. Please let me know if you’ve found a satisfactory solution. Thanks

For the FL house I bought the box that was recommended by my ISP. This is important so you don't get charged with all kinds of fees for them to come "diagnose" your issues, only to rent their box to you anyway. Scott

How about an old TiVo (expired subscription) with a free cable card (yes, my cable card is no charge from the cable company)?

If your incoming cable TV line is connected directly to the TV, have you considered using HDMI-ARC to send the audio back to your UMC-200...? There would be no additional "boxes" required. All that is needed is an ARC compatible HDMI cable inserted between the TV's HDMI (ARC) input and the UMC-200's HDMI (ARC) output. When you want to receive audio from the TV, press the "TV" button on the UMC-200's remote. It's been awhile since I've used my UMC-200, but if I remember correctly, HDMI-ARC was pretty stable and reliable. Of course, ARC can be finicky and must be configured correctly on both ends. If all else fails, there's always the option of using the Toslink output of your TV to an input on your UMC-200 (which also require no additional box)...

It’s been some time since I’ve used the UMC-200 but its for a very basic simple system. Thanks so much!

Still need help. It seems that my Panasonic plasma TV doesn’t support earc. It has VIERA and I haven’t been able to figure this out. The UMC200 supports arc but I haven’t found support for earc. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. "Enhanced" ARC (eARC) isn't required for what you're trying to do... eARC is "new" and not supported under HDMI 1.4. All that you should need to do is make sure you have the "ARC" enabled HDMI output of your UMC-200 connected to the "ARC" enabled input of your display (ARC should be clearly labeled at the HDMI input and output of both). You also need to be sure that the HDMI cable being used supports ARC (usually labeled "HDMI+ethernet"). Unless your cable predates HDMI 1.4, there should be no concerns here. Then, enable "VieraLink" (CEC) in your display and also enable CEC in settings of your UMC-200. If there's an ARC selection in your display's "audio out" options, choose that. Then, press the "TV" button on your UMC-200's remote to receive the audio from the display via HDMI-ARC.

The UMC-200 also doesn't support eARC... so that doesn't matter much. However, as long as the TV does regular ARC then that should work. NOTE that VIERA is Panasonic's proprietary term for CEC... and CEC is required in order for ARC to work. (So, if your TV has an option that says something like "Enable VieraLink", you will want to make sure it's turned on or enabled.) Still need help. You must then also select "ARC" as the audio output mode in your TV's audio settings.

I did depress TV input on the remote for the EMOTIVA It's been a minute since I've owned a Panasonic plasma, so I don't remember where all of the settings are located (or how to get to them). But this video tutorial should help... youtu.be/K26r4_U-5OI

Neither HDMI port on the TV is marked arc, only HDMI 1 or HDMI 2. The Emotiva is set to TV & ARC but nothing seems to highlight the Viersa on screen menue. Ive tried going through setup as well as the Versa button. Could the TV be too old and only work with Versa coded devices? Thanks for all your help friends but as of yet, no joy.

Are you sure the TV even has ARC. Having Viera or CEC does not automatically mean it has ARC. And one of the inputs would be marked as such if it did have ARC.

I had three Panasonic plasma tv's, all with Viera Link, none of them worked with a Panasonic DVD player that also had Viera Link, and all I wanted was to be able to use one Panasonic remote with the tv and player, but, NOPE! The first plasma was from about 2007, and the last was about 2014. Panasonic support informed me that the player was not compatible with the "newer" Viera Link on the first tv. I feel your pain.

I had one of the last series of Panasonic Plasmas (a 2013 ST-60 if I remember correctly) and it definitely supported HDMI-ARC. I know this for sure because my UMC-200 didn't like my Motorola based Verizon Fios box and I used ARC. On that set, HDMI-2 was labeled "ARC". It's not impossible that your set (you haven't mentioned what model number you have) predates HDMI 1.4 and does not support HDMI-ARC. If that's the case, then a Toslink connection from the TV to your UMC-200 should be your fallback. It will achieve the same goal.

But as I said, I couldn't use its remote for my Panasonic player at the time (which by then was pretty old, but the 2007 tv also didn't work and it was the same series). Here's the back of the last one I had, manufactured in 2013 which I bought late that year or early 2014, whenever it was that it went on sale for a lot less. TX-P65VT

Thank you all but unless I rent a cable box I’m SOL! 🥲 One would think I’d have better luck with a 2008 TV. 😏🤷♂️😳😂🤣😂 I’m going to rough it for now on. I will survive.
