I bought a disc that has .dsf files on it. From Google, I think that these are DVD audio files?
I don't think that my Emotiva Stealth DC1 DAC can play these in their native format. Am I wrong?
More to the point, are these worth converting? Can I get a player CODEC that will allow the .dsf files to be played in Roon? If they do have to be converted, to what format should I convert them?
Thanks - Boomzilla

Thanks - Boomzilla .dsf files are DSD as in SACD. The DC-1 cannot play them but you can convert them to a PCM format and then they should play fine.

Since I have a bunch of these files, it may just be time for a new DAC. Ability to play SACD, MQA, and high rez files is needed. Being the cheapskate that I am, I’m hoping to keep the (after-tax) price under $1k, and lower is better. Off the top of my head, brands of interest might include Topping, SMSL, Nu-Prime, Denafrips, etc.
But some decisions must be made before going shopping:
1. Do I want unbalanced (RCA) or balanced (XLR) circuitry and outputs? From a noise-reduction perspective, the latter holds a theoretical advantage. But I’ve not had any noise issues with my system (except for rare ground loops that I’d solved without trouble) and from a straight audio-performance standpoint, I hear no difference. Besides, I’ve got adapters to switch from unbalanced to balanced and vice versa, so maybe this isn’t a huge issue?
2. Do I want or need remote volume control on the DAC that I choose? I can use the digital volume control in Roon if the DAC lacks one (or use a preamp or integrated that has an analog remote volume) so maybe this isn’t an issue either?
3. Do I want an analog input on the DAC so that I can dispense with a preamp? My current Emotiva Stealth DC-1 has this, and although I like the idea of having it, I’ve never actually used it, so maybe this doesn’t matter either?
What else should I be looking for?
Thanks- Boom
