I did the firmware update 3.1 and I have a problem. At the end of the update, after the successful Fonts Update phase, the processor shuts down but does not restart, it remains stationary and on the left panel I can see only HDMI 1 on first row and A: HDMI 1 on second row, the right panel is off. As per instructions, I waited 30 minutes and turned off the processor using the button on the back, at this point it restarted and did the font update again and then blocked again on restart. If from this point I turn on the processor from the remote everything works and the firmware version is 3.1. But if I turn the processor off and on from the button on the back every time the font update starts again. What should I do?

This basically happened to me…..it did not “restart “…..I followed the instructions…..then just turned on with the remote…..I have 3.1…..all works fine.
I’m not sure I understand the HDMI part….Mine simply did the “HDMI font load” again with rear switch off/on….I have the “old” board.
Since you have 3.1 in the menu, it’s not a failure.
You should be fine. Mine has been working great.

The problem is that every time I turn the processor off and on from the rear button, always starts updating the fonts, then it gets stuck on restarting and to restart I have to turn it off and on from the button on the back. Since my whole system is fed by a power filter, when I switch it off everything switches off (power is cut off to all the devices) and therefore the update starts every time I turn it on again.

Do you use VRO (Video Remains On) or LPS (Low Power Standby)? Most if not all people with the older HDMI board are getting the fonts updating sequence on every boot from a full power off or Low Power Standby. What firmware version is showing for HDMI in the Information screen. If it's 8.x you have the older board and if it's 12.x it's the newer board.

Yes, I have the HDMI 8.1 version Fonts loading on every boot from Low Power Standby or a rear switch power down is normal for processors with the older HDMI board. The full boot can take up to 3 minutes.

I have the same problem with FW v3.1 and HDMI v8.1 and I am not willing to choose "Video Remains On". In the latter mode, the startup works without unnecessary font update but this mode consumes 36 W!!!! Where does EMOTIVA get the idea to call this "standby"? Full operation consumes only 3 W more. In Europe we understand "standby" ≤ 100 mW.
For me, the unnecessary font update or waiting time is a mistake I cannot accept and I expect a solution to this problem. Dear EMOTIVA team, if it can't be solved with a new FW update, I would like an exchange of the old HDMi board against a current one.

I’d just encourage this discussion to move over to the new Post FW 3.x Owners Thread where the same topic is being discussed by others.

I don't use VRO for a couple of reasons and the power draw is one of them. But it's important to understand that the processor can still pass audio and video and also allow input changes. That takes a power supply and some circuitry to accomplish and is the reason for the power draw in VRO. It's unavoidable in order to have the VRO feature that a lot of people use. It just isn't close to being possible while using 100mW.

My reasons for not using VRO are also as follows: 1. i use my TV only as a monitor (not as a TV receiver, so even without ARC) and only with Emotiva processor and cable receiver/set top box. 2. the Emotiva processor switches off and also on the whole AV system (13 devices) including active speakers in LPS mode via a master-slave power strip. 3. there is probably no master-slave power strip that can distinguish between 36 and 39 W with certainty at VRO. AudioHTIT: I saw auc after my reply that the post FW 3.x Owners Thread would be the better place. How do you switch to this one?

But there are plenty of people that like it and use it.
