My journey with Emotiva started with a UMC-200 which was purchased to get me a discount on the XMC-1. The XMC-1 quickly followed and after the warts were removed, it was pretty damn solid. My need that only Emotiva solved was an active HDMI switch when the unit was in standby. The XMC-1 was upgraded to the 4K board (at home), and it didn't go well. After a trip back to the mothership it was back home. Unfortunately that was the beginning of HELL. Swapping out all my cables did help stabilize the system, but the constant reboots was annoying. After a few firmware updates, it was better, but one of the later updates killed my Tivo's ability to sync with the RMC-1L. At this point the External switch approach was tried, and it worked great. Of course, with my search for perfection, I had to upgrade it to an HDFury product. Around this time we also added a Sonos ARC for everyday normal TV listening. The HDfury line of products made this easy and eliminated any lip-sync issues.
The latest firmware update was horrible. My Blu-Ray player decided that it didn't want to talk to the RMC... Video was OK, but no sound. Hours of tweaking, working with HDfury on settings produced..well, nothing.
Enter the AVM 70 8K, ordered with an estimated deliver of Dec 15th, and it arrived the next day (maybe a sign from above :-) ). Setup was a breeze, ARC Genesis on AUTO was a quick run (the goal was to get it up and running ASAP, I will tweak it later). My worst part was the Universal remote reprogramming because the software requires a Windows 7 VM... and the software loves to crash at the worst time.
Observations after a few movies and TV shows.
1. No Clicks and Pops
2. Fast HDMI Sync, and my problem devices connected properly right away (e.g. the Tivo that would only green screen to the RMC (if it synced), synced right away, perfect picture.
3. Sound quality was better. Friends and Family asked if we were streaming because it sounded so good.
4. Startup from a power off state is very quick...10seconds or less.
5. No loud pop when the amps are triggered.
6. For music, dropping the first notes from a digital stream. (with the previous RMC firmware, this was better)
7. For some reason, the Video resync stopped when surfing previews on the ATV.
8. With the DIM setting, I can turn off the display so the unit is totally dark. It was one less distracting light. With the white, black display, when you want to see the display it is highly visible across the room.
The real surprise was when I came home and the family was watching something with the HT ON!!! They absolutely refused to use the RMC-1L because of it's issues. Their comment, this is great, it just works. Why didn't it work like this before.
Why am I posting this detail... Because this is the way it should work. I'm begging Emotiva to get their act together and fix their product. I'm still a fan, and would love to keep using their equipment, but life is too short to wait for the promised land.
Again, Many thanks to the people on this forum and folks at Emotiva who spent a lot of time trying to help me fix my issues. I will check back every now and then to see what progress is made, but my daily addiction is over.
Please be kind to each other, life is way too short for anger.
