I have used the pre-out RCA connections to connect grom 2 different, modern receivers to my A2, and cannot control volume to the amplifier. I’m using the receiver as a preamp, taking the RCA pre-outs directly to the A2 inputs, but have no control over the volume.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
One is a Denon DRA 800h AV receiver, the second is an Onkyo YX 8220 receiver.
The input source is Toslink from my TV. (Optical.)

I'm not familiar with the Onkyo but on the Denon those pre-outs are for Zone 2. Are you switching to Zone 2 when trying the volume? Edit: Looking at the rear of the Onkyo, I'm guessing those Line Out jacks might be a "fixed" volume for a tape deck or something.

Unless you Pre-Outs clearly labeled, you don't have Pre-outs to connect any power amplifier. As mentioned above you do have Zone 2 out. Typically you could tell zone 2 what you want to listen too, and adjust the volume from zone 2 control.
