For the moment, I am using my Samsung TV for access to Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon, YouTube, Internet and CBS streaming.
from the forum....
do you have a recommendation for an external unit I could plug into my RMC-1L that would do a better job . Name your choice and why.
Thanks......
Tchaik...........

Name your choice and why. Thanks...... Tchaik........... I'm partial to the Apple TV 4K. Reasons...the unit is well made and the app(s) work well to access the various streaming services. We also have and "Apple Centric" household. The top level unit tops out at $149, which sounds expensive as compared to other manufacturers, but is relatively cheap in this day and age. Adding an external box has the advantage of being able to upgrade as well as replace if there is an issue. The internal apps (TV) never seem to receive updates or improvements. If you want to save money, I would go with a Roku product. We do have one on the basement TV and it works as promised.

Either way you go... my recommendation is to go with a wired connection over wireless. Although you may have a strong wifi signal by the TV, going with a wired connection you simply remove any headaches or troubleshooting that wifi may introduce. That being said... I'm using and can highly recommend either of these two streamers: - Apple TV 4k (Gen 3) with Ethernet - I use this in my family room connected to an OLED TV, Sonos Arc and Subwoofer. For day to day viewing, it's a pleasure to use and so far works perfectly with every app we've tried. Screen mirroring with other Apple Products has been flawless. Watching family photos and videos natively from the Photos app works perfectly. If you are a Plex user, you may find issues streaming your own 4k content; however, if you use the Infuse app (yearly subscription), instead of Plex, it will stream basically any file format / type without a problem. This streamer is limited to Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital Plus 7.1, and Dolby Atmos. So if you're interested in other surround formats, then the Shield is you're best bet. Otherwise, it's a great streamer and for my use case in the family room; it works perfectly.
- Nvidia Shield Pro - not the tube, the Pro version (see below). I have 3 of these; actually looking to sell one of them as I'm keeping the Apple TV in the family room. Mine are the 2017 models; the 2019 model added Dolby Vision and AI Upscaling. The Shield, in my opinion, is by far the best streamer. Yes, it's a little outdated; however, it passes every surround format and streams every file format that I've thrown at it without issue. If you're in the Google ecosystem or use Chrome as you're favorite browser, casting from any device works flawlessly. The UI is a bit dated, the Apple TV is a little faster in switching between apps; however, since it passes all surround formats, I use the Shield in my home theater room.
The only other streamer I would consider is the Chrome Cast with Google TV ($49 4k version); however, add the ethernet adapter ($19) for worry free viewing. I purchased this streamer for my parents; it's been flawless for the last couple of years. Extremely hard to beat for $70. They have it connected to an OLED TV and Sonos Playbar.

I can second the Nvidia Shield Pro. I have the 2019 version and it works great and streams all the latest formats.

I do use pin 13 eliminators on both of them.

First literally any of the main solutions: fire tv, Apple tv, google tv will do way better than your samsung. You will get faster loading as the most obvious difference. But on top of that, you will be able to throw stuff from your phone to the tv. If you have an apple tv, you can watch a movie with your friends somewhere else and it'll stop and start for them as a group. Also your display can act as a screen for your smarthome. Like the amazon fire tv will make announcements and show me the picture of my home security camera.

I have multiple AppleTVs in the house and they work great. Significantly faster than any native apps built into a smart tv. No issues at all with my RMC-1. I’ve heard really good things about the Nvidia Shield also, but IIRC some people here had issues with it and the RMC.

I’ve heard really good things about the Nvidia Shield also, but IIRC some people here had issues with it and the RMC. + for ATV4K. Much better user experience than the Shield hands down. The shield is useful though as it can take a USB HDD. I use it to back up things over the network, very handy. But the ATV gets all the interface and playback work. Get both!

Tchaik............. btw.... we are also apple-centric. iMacs x2, iPhones x2, iPad. ihop and Idon't give a s..t..... I was going to ask what type of phone you have, with your Apple centric house the TV makes a lot of sense (4KG2 is current). If you read some of the various streaming forums, you learn that none are perfect, and some apps work better on one platform or the other, or get updated more quickly. Besides the extra casting and mirroring features mentioned with iPhone/TV, logging into the Apps is much easier as it recognizes you have an iPhone and allows you to easily enter your stored passwords from there (manually entering passwords from the remote is rather painful). The TV UI is also very good and should be familiar. If you use Music you can stream it directly from TV, including lossless, surround, and Atmos/Spatial mixes — also if you have Music on your Mac, you can pull/stream music from your ripped/stored library there (TV does resample all audio to 24/48, but it sounds great). Apps like Infuse allow you to pull stored audio and video files from other sources as well (though this is not unique to TV and it is a payed App). With the RMC-1/XMC-2 there are some pops an clicks commonly reported with the TV, typically when navigating, I’m not sure if other products also cause this. Otherwise integration and performance are very good. I’m not sure who has the best iHop integration, though I do find that after watching the TV for some time I tend to crave pancakes 🥞

I have an iPhone 11 because (like spinal tap) I want my phone to go to 11. as for clicks and pops, those do not bother me. as one gets older, usually one becomes more tolerant and more patient.

All I can say is Roku>Amazon. Have both and the Roku just works while the Firestick is glitchy.
