My circa 2008 XPA-2 has been in and out of storage for a few years, it has spent most of its life not being used due to me never being around, and as of late under a bed.
I have had a bit of gear in and out of my rack, going from HT to 2 channel. I just sold my Denafrips Thallo amplifier due to the fact, the XPA-2 simply
sounded better with my KLH Model 5's.
I cracked mine open to inspect the interior, I could not believe how clean it was in there after seeing other amps of the same age. Very little if any dust and
a quick wipe down of the top case interior was all she needed.
Anyone still using one of these first gen XPA amplifiers?
And how many of you are using the XPA-2 in their 2 channel setup? And have you tried other amplifiers and found yourself going back to the XPA-2?
Just curious.

The XPA-2 was a a good solid well built amp. I think the gen 2 refined its sound to push it up to a more open natural sound when you compare the two.  |

And which generation did Emotiva move away from the toroidal transformers? And thoughts on all generations in regards to neutrality and overall sound quality? |

I've listened to all three generations XPA-2. I think the gen 2 is the best. The gen 3 is "Ok" but I wouldn't take it over the previous first two generations. |

I owned a Gen1 and now a Gen3. My preference is the Gen3. It sounds every bit as good and weighs considerably less. I have since had another channel added to make it an XPA-3. I'm in agreement with geebo as this has also been my experience. I will be adding two stereo channels to my XPA-5 to make it an XPA-9 for Atmos next year. |

I am using a Generation 1 XPA5. Solid as a rock. On all day every day. Just to mention my pre/pro is a sonyES5300 purchased in 2008. Both products continue to function flawlessly. I have been a Sony customer since 1972 with a 17inch "Trinitron" I moved from Sherman Oaks to Carmel Cailfornia and gave the Trinitron to a cousin. Worked perfectly as it did when purchased in 1972.

Thank you for the replies! Kicking the idea around of getting another amp, but am really on the fence in regards to sound quality. It is times like this I wish I owned a pair of 99% efficiency Klipsch speakers. I could run those with a 9v battery. ;-)

Yes!
Passive verticle bi-amping with two 1st gen XPA-2s. With a 1st gen XPA3 for center and surrounds. Not sure where I would go next, and Emotiva doesn't seem to have an interest in fixing broken ones.

I am very happy with my XPA-2 Gen 3 with my Klipsch speakers. I have a friend that is a rock concert sound tech over and he was very impressed with the natural clean sound of my system. He brought over some of his sound studio tapes and we rock out. I have never regretted my Emotive purchase.

I was younger when I moved them to the room they are in now & each day since becoming more and more reluctant to attempt to move them anywhere else!
Here's a question though, can I add channels (via Emotiva) to make an XPA-5 G1 to an XPA-9 or 11 or would I need to trade it in for current Gen product? Is that upgrade even possible, G1 to G3/4 XPA? I think the answer is NO, but I figured I should ask anyway!

Still use my Gen 1 XPA-2 and XPA-5 regularly. I always wanted to buy a pair of XPA-1 amps but never did 😔

I have 2 Gen 1 XPA-1 amps and they drive Magnaplaner 3.6R speakers magnificently. I do not subscribe to the wisdom of 30 watts class A that the Gen 2 provides (Gen 1 has 10 watts), nor the switch (no pun intended) to the switching PS of the Gen 3.

The XPA is the definition of Emotiva. My Brother enjoys his formerly mine XPA-2 Gen1 to this day. All the things you expect in a great amplifier along with great value. These are not coming back relative to the current direction of Emotiva, making the Gen1 and Gen2 very special indeed. I think for me the favorites of mine. The XPR would also be there and the UPA and RPA amplifiers too.

Emotiva SA-250 (similar to the XPA-2). Awesome when it was running, loved it. Unfortunately very much a love/hate relationship. Mine had a number of attempts at repair, now sits sadly in the cupboard not working. 😢
