This one recently cropped up - and it's bizarre. 1. When I do a level check on all of my 5.1 speakers - and this includes presets for 5.1 and DIRAC - my all speakers get a test tone with the exception of my front right speaker. 2. When I listen to music, dirac, literally anything I get output from my front right speaker.
Bizarre right? Any suggestions or root causes? I have a feeling the recommendation is going to be to factory reset it...which means I'll lose all my dirac settings and my ethernet port on my xmc-1 became inoperative which means I will lose DIRAC forever potentially.
Thanks,
John

Backup your settings before you do the Factory Reset. Then restore settings after. Your Dirac filters will also be restored.

Thanks for the tip. Backed up my resettings, factory reset the system. Still no output during level set pink noise on front right speaker - but still audio comes out of it when playing dirac or literally anything. Once I verified that the issue still remained I elected to restore my settings...unfortunately it's been on the 'please wait' screen for restoring settings which is currently 'in progress' for in excess of 20 minutes. I'm likely going to go back to bed and check this in the AM but I fear it's hung up and that if I interrupt it it's going to result in issues.

If it's still hung up, try the long-press on the power button to shut it down, then unplug the power cord for a few minutes and try again. I have experienced this thing with one channel not playing the level noise (for me the left, on the XMC-2) and it usually clears by changing inputs back and forth.

Okay so it's not just me. I'll give that a shot. I'm back in business post reset and restore but the right channel is still exhibiting the same behavior. Switched cables, amps, amp channels, plugged into RCA and XLR, no dice. I'll try switching inputs.

I would put a call into Franklin Tennessee and or decide if you want to take this step farther with them. (you had me thinking just now, and I edited my own post……) I haven’t looked at those settings in a very very long time, but if memory serves, there are two different DBL output level test on the Settings. Why don’t you try the sweep alternating between those two and see what happens?

Anyone from Emotiva able to chime in on this one?

I'll see if I can find the second output test. I did change the levels of the pink noise test but I'll visit the other option. I live an hour north of franklin but I would guess a repair would cost more than a replace, just a guess.

Randomly started working for no reason. I'll take the win.
Next step: bad Ethernet port. Is it a modular repair I.e. I buy a board from emotiva and replace it or game over?

I don’t know of anyone who’s ever replaced one, or had one replaced for that matter, but worth a call. Maybe someone has a unit ‘for parts’ available, though you’d need to know the port worked.

Thanks for the response. I had a lightning strike that hit on September 7th and am still trying to wrap my arms around what works and what doesn't. I had my gear behind large datacenter grade zerosurge series surge suppressors but the ethernet switches were not plugged into the suppressor. The lightning annihilated the router and travelled up the premise cabling and fried random ethernet transceivers. The emotiva I believe was one such victim.

Ugg, that sounds miserable, I’m sure it’s a pain to get all that sorted, good luck!

It's insane testing function by function input by input. And as we all know the XMC1 was already full of random issues with strange work arounds so determining if something is actually broken versus the normal 'random bug' state of things makes it even more difficult. I can't even get link state on ethernet trying multiple cables, factory reset, known good switch ports, etc. so I feel it's relatively safe to think it's fried. However on lots of products the ethernet chipset is ubiquitous or tied to a board and most chipsets come from vendors like broadcom, etc. so I figured there might be a small chance of being able to just replace some dedicated cheap board. I would assume that any repair on a used XMC-1 would come close in price to just buying another used XMC-1. This is not the 4k version as well, I literally bought it only for it's audio capabilities because of it's analog inputs/bypass and 8 channels of balanced out, I run and build active 8 channel speakers (I'm a tinkerer) using Audiolense to design the crossovers and room curves as well as for implementing linear phase and time alignment so it's worth even less because it's the original HDMI board.

I have had similar problems with checking sub levels on my XMC-1 after sending it in to Emotiva for repair and HDMI upgrade. The issue is random but when use in normal listening it is just fine.

Agreed, very strange and mine just went away. Still puzzling on if the 'no' was to my statement that the XMC-1 is full of random issues and work arounds (one example being what you mentioned/we have experienced) or if the no was to 'it's insane testing function by function input my input'...that was not to imply that it was insane as a troubleshooting methodology but insanely painful to do.
But I will take 405x5's advice and contact Franklin as I live 45 minutes from Franklin, I'm just east of Nashville and always wanted a reason to visit emotiva HQ.

Called emotiva and got no answer. Opened a support request last week and so far no response. Any tips in how to talk to a human?
