Has anyone performed a head to head comparison of the Def Tech BPX's and the ERD-1's? The reason for asking is that I noticed the BPX's are still selling for at least $500 used, and I'm seriously considering selling mine and buying the ERD-1's for half the price.
The BPX's have 4 5.25 inch woofers and 2 tweeters, so I'm just not sure this is even a fair comparison.

A lot of surrounds in the same price range as the BPX have been disposed of by the Emotiva ERD-1s. One of the best examples of this is shown during Audioholic's review of the Emotiva ERM-1/ERD-1 surround sound system. The reviewer specifically pointed out that the Axiom 8, a highly respected surround speaker, came up short against the ERD-1 in every category he could think of. The reviewer went on to say that the Emotiva ERD-1 was in higher class -- all by itself. If you have any doubts, order a pair of ERD-1s and try them head-to-head with the BPX and decide for yourself. Use the 30-day trial period to do an in-house comparison.

i agree.. at the price of the ERDs, you really have nothing to lose. Although, there is something to be said about the timber matching you presently have. But again you need to test them in your room to know for sure.

Thanks for the comments. I think I'll give the ERD-1's a try very soon.

I liked them so much (testing the first pair) I bought another 4 and still have 2 in a box awaiting the XMC and (I REALLY hope) more channels.

I have owned the Def. Tech BPVX which is a step up over the BPX's and now own the ERD's and the ERD's perform to my ears just as well as the BPVX's. The ERD's retailed for $299 where is the BPVX's retailed for $1200. That is a lot of difference and I can promise you the BPVX's are no where near 4 times the cost difference in sound quality.

Thanks for the input. I had to leave my Def Tech UIW-94As when I moved. I struggled over whether to get more Def Techs or go with the ERD-1s. Now I'm glad I went with the ERD-1s, even though I haven't been able to hook them up yet. It does raise the question as to whether it's time to retire the Def Tech BP20 fronts + a C/L/R 2500 center in favor of ERT8.3s + a ERT6.3.

So far a few members who owned BP series def techs and made the switch. They really seem to be enjoying the upgrade.
