Thinking about purchasing the erc-1 along with the umc-1. My question is one would get the same audio reproduction using the analog outputs of the erc-1 with the cd analog imputs of the umc-1 and not using the digital or optical inputs of the umc-1 as opposed to the hookups in the usp-1. I hope this is not to confusing.
thanks hal

Hal:
If you went with the ERC analog outs into the UMC CD input, the UMC converts the signal again to give you digital control for other functions and then back out to the output stage, so you want to avoid that. For the least amount of processing, use the analog outs of the ERC and go into the multi channel inputs of the UMC. That way, you are hearing the ERC's dacs and analog output stage. The UMC will be just a gain control at this point.

I don't think there is, but wondered if you can somehow do this. I will be using my USP-1 in HT bypass mode, so I won't need to be concerned about it. Doug

then i would use the hdmi on the oppo 83 to the hdmi in the umc-1 to get Dolby true hd, Dts-HD or sacd if i listen to sacd cd or dvd-audio disc. Or is better to hook up the opp 83 directly to the Plasma using hdmi and using the optical or digital hookups from the opp to the umc
thanks hal

Doug Doug: I currently use the ERC's analog outputs to the multi channel inputs of my AVR and then I run a single wire from the right channel of output 2 of the ERC into the Subwoofer input of the AVR thus giving me 2.1 for stereo play. You would be able to do the same with the UMC in supplying that single wire from the ERC to the Sub input of the UMC. Hope this helps

Doug Maybe I am missing something, but wouldn't the ideal way to use the ERC-1 is to connect it to the USP-1 via analog and not the UMC-1? That way you can still use 2.1 if you wanted to and you get full analog connection. I understood the USP-1 and ERC-1 combo would be better than a ERC-1 and UMC-1 combo.

Yes, I was mainly asking the question for others without a USP-1 like I have. Doug

Leave the HDMI connection for home theater use and then run stereo RCA cables from the analog outputs of the Oppo to the cd or multi channel inputs of the UMC. I tend to think the sound of the analog outputs of the Oppo are pretty good.
