Dann.......the subs look fine to me. My current sub, Atlantic Technology, 250w 12", front-firing is hidden behind my gear in a corner and no one ever sees it. My wife doesn't want to see a sub in the room, so the finish makes no difference to me.
I'm curious as to the X series and what the differences are between them and the Ultra including cost.

The Ultra subs will be available in the black ash finish as pictured, and also in a cherry finish. I do not have a cherry version to photograph yet. These are the first of an entire line of Ultra speakers that will be showing up next year, also veneer finishes, in cherry and black ash. This line will be an amazingly priced line, perhaps almost half what our current speakers are. The Ultra speakers will be ported (by customer demand), and will all be full range. Two different towers, a center, two bookshelf models, and surrounds. All full range, all ported. The 'Reference' or X line that we already have will continue with their current look and design, perhaps updated at some point. So, there. Ported? I must have missed the poll. Front or rear? Rear kind of sucks for bookshelf/cabinet placing. Not an official poll, no...just talking to people over the course of the last year. The show a Mac's in St. Louis made an impression on Big Dan.

Well when they do come out I may have to update my living room system. Ditch the Infinity system, and do a full Ultra set. From Pre-pro to speakers and everything in between. Sounds good to me.
It will be cool to see what they look like and how they perform.
You guys keep amazing me.
As a side note are the new Ultra speakers also going to be designed by Vance?

Cool Nothing really against ported designs just bookshelf models with ports in the back. ;D As far as the finish, I personally don't care since my room's sub placement is out of view. I would like to see some graphs however.

+1 to using the ERT look and finish on the higher end subs. This is from a customer who recently bought the ERT, ERM, and ERD-1. I will be interested in a pair of the higher end subs if it can best my Velodyne DD-12.
p.s. Wood grain is ugly...

I will be interested in a pair of the higher end subs if it can best my Velodyne DD-12. The ERS-212's should easily outperform the DD series. The DD's dont exactly have the greatest output at low frequencies but they are good subs. They should be updating the DD line sometime in 2010....about time.

The more I lurk around on here, the more new products I find. ;D The dream of building an all Emotiva system is beginning to materialize. The U series price points are very consumer friendly and are great for the average user (such as myself) who never really thought about getting into audiophile grade gear before, due to the cost factor. ***Begins dreaming*** I can see it now...a UMC-1 running into two UPA-1's (for mains) and a UPA-5 (for everything else). All of these amps will be powering the Ultra line of affordable and outstanding Emotiva speakers, and a 12" ultra sub for the low end. /ends dream sequence. I just want to send a hearty "THANK YOU" to the folks at Emotiva for offereing the products they do at the price points they have. It makes dreams like the one above a real and possible reality for the average guy. It's nice to know that you don't have to settle for less. That you can actually build a system you can be proud of, even in a room full of "hardcore audiophiles".

I don't know what all the complaining is about as I think these look fine. I would be interested in seeing a picture of the cherry finish before putting in an order though.
The small size of the 10" is perfect for my office to add to a pair of monitors (yet to be purchased also) and give them the extra "oomph" most monitors are missing. Nevermind the price is totally sweet too!

As soon as you guys have a chance please put some graphs of frequency vs. spl. I'm considering the Ultra 12 along with some others and if the Ultra is hitting 109db(with what % distortion) then it might be the one I'm looking for

yeah Dann, that would be great. Thanks I can always ask Nick to run AP reports, too. We've got the 12" in our theater right now...sounds awesome. I can't wait to hear it when we have two in there. The 10" is in the Lounge, hooked up to our 2 channel setup. It replaced an old prototype, and sounds better, I think. I am able to distinguish bass notes, as opposed to just 'low end'. These subs have a very tight sound, and the ERS subs, when they finally get here, will be jaw-dropping, I believe.

$799/$999 I think was the original estimate or something like that.

$799/$999 I think was the original estimate or something like that. It has been so long since the "guestimate prices" were posted I think everyone has forgotten the exact price projections. For some reason, the figures in the back of my mind are $699 for the ERS-112 and $999 for the ERS-212; but the subs have been totally redesigned with all new, more robust parts, so I would be surprised to hear the pricing is still the same. It would be wonderful to hear that Emotiva was able to make all those upgrades to the sub's components and still maintain the original pricing levels. You never know, Emotiva is the master of unbelievable bang for the buck. They would totally dominate the market if they are able to hold those original price estimates. ;D ;D
