I'll be the first to say that if you want brain blasting sound, you can't beat the laws of physics with a small sub or two or three but you can have fun getting sort of close to the biguns.... So, to each his own but a couple or few small powerful and musical subs are enough for me. I give up a little on the very low end but I can integrate the subs a bit better than the big guys. Bass is all about cone space and xmax. If your running multiple smaller subs your sure as hell can keep up with "big boys" and larger single sub solutions. I ran 4 10" downfiring PSW2500 sealed Kef subs, each with its own 250watt rms amp in a relatively small room. With 4 of those I got plenty of audible fz extension below 15hz and tons of raw output with the gains set very low. 4 10" drivers have more cone space than a single 18". Considering I paid a total of $1k for the 4 of them, they gave me a much bigger bang for the buck in output and are much more musical than any of the large single driver solutions out on the market costing thousands more. Go look at a THT or a DTS-10, One 15" THT sub with 13mm xmax will destroy pretty much any single sub out there from 25hz up. Or you can get the DTS-10 that will destroy anything 15hz and up. Both use a tapped horn design to output massive bass, not xmax or cone space. Did I forget to say the THT will do this with under 100 watts of power?

The DTS-10 is a BANDPASS sub design......you can get ANY sub to play really low fz when using a tuned bandpass box, its nothing new. Just don't expect a bandpass box thats tuned down that low to sound anything musical through the audible frequencies. There is always a tradeoff..................I have a half dozen Phoenix Gold Cyclone subs brand new in the box still that can make a DTS bandpass box look poor and inefficient at its tuning point with half the power if I really wanted that kind of low end response.

Humm looks like it IS a tapped horn design www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1189404You should build one of these subs you speak of and sell it for a huge profit, I mean since you know everything, it will be a piece of cake. I bet you've never even heard a dts-10 or a THT. Next time you comment on something and give the ol rollin' eyes, you better make sure your are at least right about it

What size of room you running them bad boys in puppetz? In a medium sized room they would be insane!! I've hear 1 at a friends place and though it was amazing what that sub could do.

My "theater" is in our great room- a humongous living space that's open to the kitchen in the back and the foyer and formal dining room on one side. It's over 7,400 cubic feet of space (10-ft high ceilings too). That's why I had to go big. For the size of the room though, I'm completely satisfied with the Ultras and have absolutely no desire to upgrade (for the first time in my life).

lol nice! thats a HUGE room !!! The thing about the ultra 13's is they sound great but they actually look very nice. SVS subs in general are pretty great performers. Smart move going for 2 in a room that big.

I feel so inadequate now, hearing about all the nice subs you all have. But for now I'm making due with my Definitive PF15. Lots of other things that need replacing before I get around to replacing it. Works fine for now.

Dont replace, just add another when the time comes........unless the SQ out of it just doesnt suit you.
