I have been waiting for the emo twins for over 2 years now and don't want to wait any longer. My dad has a hsu uls15 which is crazy good but i don't want to shell out 1,400 on a sub. I had thought about mfw15's but now that seems crazy. ;D I have been thinking maybe diy?? parts express has dayton drivers amps and wood veneer cabinets. Anyone have any thoughts about dayton? These are the two drivers that caught my eye www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-468www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-420I would use for 50/50 music/theater

I can recommend the RS/HF subwoofers.

the Dayton RSS390HF-4 15 ? or another model? If so did you build a cabinet for it and what amp did you use?

I can also vouch for the RS series. I run the 15" High Fidelity version with a 500-watt Bash plate amp, mostly for movies.
These sub drivers are the real deal.

very happy with the dayton titanic 12". have 2 subs, each of them in approx 3 cubic boxes vented with an f3 of about 23 hz. had them sealed before but i like the vented better.
caution!!!!
diy is addictive. start once and you will want to continue on and on and on and on and on...........................

I have used the 15" titanic in a 4 ft^3 sealed enclosure powered by one side of an ep2500 amp (~650watts). It sounded really good. I recently upgraded to an infinite baffle system, which of course blows it away.
If I was building a subwoofer with a standard enclousre the dayton HF subs are on a short list of drivers I would use. You sacrafice some displacement compared to the titanic but the Dayton HF subs have lower distortion and cost less.

Granted it's not Dayton but I made a great sub using a 15" from Creative Sound Solutions www.creativesound.ca/details.php?model=SDX15Fills most of the house with low-end with the right scene playing. Dyohn helped me through the sizing...

In my opinion you'd get better results using something like the Dayton SA1000 subwoofer amp rather than the Behringer amp, and you'll want to get some binding posts for connecting your speaker wire, but other than that go for it.

I would go with an ep2500 if you can find one. The tests that I have read state the ep2500 will do 650W per channel into a 4 ohm load. I am not sure how much less the ep1500 will do, definitely not what the manufacturer specs state. If you can't find an ep2500 I would go with an ep4000, which is basically the same thing with a new model number. This will push your cost up $100 but I think it would be worth it. My $0.02 ;D

If anyone is interested, here is how the Dayton 12" RSS315HF ($138) did in comparison with a Skaaning SK300 ($710) sub. Go to the link and scroll down to the heading "Sub test: Dayton vs Skaaning..." It's about 2/3 the way down. Should provide a nice reference point. www.zaphaudio.com/tidbits/
